Formula - 32oz/day max?

we have an appointment with my sons pediatrician next week and I plan to discuss this with the doctor then, but I'm curious to know if anyone has heard or been told that babies should not go over 32oz/day of formula. After doing online research to get a general idea about how much my LO should be eating I've found most sites recommending about 2.5oz x LO weight in pounds per day but no more than 32oz per day. I'm currently feeding on demand (3-4oz every 3-4 hours which usually ends up being between 27-30oz per day. My son is 7 weeks old and I can't Imagine that only a few ounces more than what he is eating now will satisfy him a few weeks from now and he is still months away from being able to start cereal/purées. I would never limit him if he's starving but I'm curious to know what others have been told.

If this has already been discussed on another thread I apologize!

Re: Formula - 32oz/day max?

  • I'm assuming that he'll be going longer between feedings so he'll be eating like 6-8oz every 6-8hours. So same amount total but more in one sitting rather than several smaller sittings. BUT, I could be completely wrong since I am a FTM lol.

That would definitely make sense. FTM too, I'm just thinking the bigger he gets the hungrier he would be but maybe not. I can't image that the same amount of formula/day that satisfies a 12lb baby would satisfy a much bigger one.
  • I've heard this as well!
