I know I should be thankful...

I know this is terribly impolite, but I'm frustrated by my baby shower. I didn't want to have a baby shower because our place is tiny, we're borderline minimalists, and I'm picky. I *really* dislike clutter and extra things in my house. But My MIL talked me into having a shower. She assured me that their family sticks to the registry and didn't get big/extravagant gifts. Their family consists of many more people than my family/friends.

Well, I got all sorts of gifts not on my registry from MIL and her family. My family went in for a larger gift. My friends got me things off the registry or basics like clothes and blankets. And their family got me lots of particular, somewhat pricy items that I don't want and won't use. Most of it came without receipts too.

I know I should be thankful that people care about me and got me a gift, but I really just feel guilty that I don't like what they got me. Maybe I'll find some of the items surprisingly useful, but I still feel bad.

  • Definitely frustrating but hey, you can return most things for store credit! That way you can buy something that you need or will actually use. Also, if this is your first you may be surprised by the things that you end up finding useful. And if all else fails you can feel good about donating these items to someone who will be happy to get them. Win win.
  • sounds like a good problem to have ...as others have said what you don't want donate...if not then try for store credit
