Is anyone having newborn photos professionally done? I want to but at the expense I am not so sure it is worth it, but I have seen so many adorable outfits on etsy I would use. Just wondering what some of your opinions are!
We are. A neighbor three houses down does photography on the side and charges $125 a session. This gets you a CD with 8-12 photos that you can print yourself or she has a supplier that she can order from as well. She did our maternity pictures and I was very happy with the results. I sent her Pinterest examples a few weeks before so she could understand what I liked and didn't like. We will be doing the same for newborn photos. She suggested waiting until he is 6-8 days old to do them. I got a crocheted cow beanie from etsy for $25 and a family friend gave us crocheted cowboy hat and boots as a shower gift. I'm looking forward to them!!
My mom works at a photo printing studio. The owner is actually setting up a newborn baby photography workshop. So we'll have 5-6 local photographers learning about infant photography and taking photos to submit to a contest. We'll get 1-2 prints from each photographer. It is scheduled for 5 days after the due date, so hopefully baby cooperates and comes at the right time for it!
We are having them done. The photographer we are using has all the props and cute blankets you could ever imagine. So i don't need to buy anything for the shoot. She will also take photos of our family with the baby. While looking I found places that charge $1k plus down to $200. And some don't give you digital photos at all. Ours will give us 20 digital photos touched up. Which is plenty, last time we only picked 8 photos from a 4hr shoot.
I'm leaning towards getting them. The photographer I found comes right to my house and does the photos 8-15 days after she is born. I have found cute outfits on etsy so I just have to look for some poses I want for my little one. This is one that I will use cause I love the pose:)
I'm also doing them. Like PP said, most photographers have all the props and clothes so the cost includes those. Unless there is something specific you want to use. (I'm bringing a headband I bought specifically for the shoot).
I am doing them. The photographer who did DH and I's wedding will be doing them. The cost should be pretty minimal. I can't wait to see how they turn out!
We are having them done at the hospital. There is a company that comes around and does them for whoever wants them.
I am hoping this is the case with our hospital! I'm not wild about someone coming to our house after and would like to just get some done at the hospital! We're bringing a cute outfit and swaddle with matching hat to put her in just incase.
I didn't with DS and kind of regret it. We are getting some this time. Just casual lifestyle at home with us all as a family. I think the poses are cute, but I think I'd rather just document this moment in our lives becoming a family of 4.
I paid a ton for them with my first and I love them.... But it was a very stressful experience. I still don't know how she got what she did. Baby was very fussy... I think I had to nurse three times during the session and I wanted them outside and it was hot and muggy that day. Yuck. A friend of mine who is a newborn/child photographer is doing them this time for a super friendly discount rate. She's actually coming to the hospital to do some and then to our house later on. I'm excited and just hoping it goes more smoothly than the last time
Check out groupon!! Didn't think of this before but they have a 25 percent off local deals today. And there was a $50 1 hour on location package that includes 1 print and digital images. So I got it does $35!! Checked out photographers website ahead of time and pics looked good. It was a like a $200+ value. Crazy ! As it gets into fall/slower season they are prob looking to fill days.
Unless we find a fabulous Groupon or something, we aren't going to do them. We'll DIY our newborn pics...would rather put that sort of money elsewhere.
We are doing it! We will use the photos for a combo birth announcement/holiday card. Just bought a beautiful smocked feltman brothers newborn gown at a consignment sale today. Big brother will be in a cute outfit too!
I'm gonna my to attempt to do my own. I don't have very many props.. But with babies sometime less is better. Newborns are something I need to work on as a photographer, so why not practice with my own! I just hope I feel up to it and the days don't turn into weeks before I get a shoot set up!
We are having them done, the photographer is coming to our house about 10 days after the baby is born. It's a combination of candid shots and some (lightly) posed shots. I'm just having the baby wear one of those little knit wraps with a little crocheted hat if a boy and a headband if a girl. The baby's sister (my stepdaughter) is 6 and will wear a simple dress. Most of the photos will focus on them, but FI and I will probably be in some, just casual. Nothing too posed or fancy. These shots are on my list:
My best friend is starting a new business, so she's using us to get established. I don't mind my maternity pics came out georgeous!!!! I couldn't have been happier!!! I bought some cute things off esty and she has some props as well . I told her she can have everything afterwards and she will get some awesome pics for her profolio and I will have some cute pics as well. It's a win win. I'm so excited and I can not wait!!!!!
Yes, we are! $400 package of maternity, newborn, 6 month, & 1 year pics all included. We get the disks and printing rights so we can go wherever and get them printed.
I'm a photographer and newborns have always been my favorite so I'm ridiculously excited to be able to shoot my own LO! (I've already told DH, that the poor kiddo is going to have to deal lots of modeling for mommy's camera over his life haha).
While I already had plenty of props and backdrops, I've been stocking up on more to prepare (and maybe spending a tad more than DH would like...whoops!).
I've posted this in previous threads, but if you are attempting to do the photos yourself, or with a photographer that's just starting out, please please please be careful in attempting those cute pinterest/etsy poses. The majority of them are composite images edited together in photoshop afterward. Fire example, the one above with the teddy bear hat and the hands holding up the head. That's at least 2 or 3 images stitched together. If your photographer just tries to prop your baby up like that, please do not let him/her! If you want those images and your photographer doesn't have an assistant, please have an extra person at your home to help. They're done by having someone help support the baby's head and neck from different angles and then that person is edited out later. Much like the hanging hammock images. Just a little PSA.
Also schedule the shoot within the first 2 weeks of your little ones birth if you want those bundled up poses (when they're still open to being curled up like they were in the womb)...make sure your house is very warm the day of, or have a space heater ready (your photographer might bring their own). Schedule it for a time off day when your baby is most likely to sleep.
Our hospital does a package right there and my friend did them. They were very cute! They got a really adorable one of their LO in a basket and some on a little fur rug.

And finally, have patience
