April 2016 Moms

2 under 1

I just found out I am pregnant again! As excited as my husband and I are we are also terrified because we just had our son (took us 3 years to get pregnant with him!) 3 months ago and he was born 2 months early. Does anyone have any tips on raising "Irish Twins"? Yes we are aware of the dangers so please no rude or judge mental comments. Thank you!

Re: 2 under 1

  • My 2nd and 3rd are 14 mos apart, so a bit more space in between. The good part was that I was still in baby mode-nursing, being up at night, diapers, etc. The hardest part was that they went through wonder weeks and sleep regressions at the same time. When they were happy, mama was happy. When they were both cranky, the whole house suffered. Another difficult part was the logistics for getting around. All three still needed a stroller still, so I babywore the youngest a lot, while the other two were in a double stroller. It's challenging, but not impossible. Your oldest will never remember a time without a sibling, which will be nice for you.

  • My oldest are 15 months apart. Like the pp said I was still in baby mode, so that helped. It was a hard transition for me, but once I figured out the routine of things, it got easier. The good news was that my oldest really showed no jealousy at all because she was so young. It seems overwhelming now, but you'll pull through. My oldest two are the best of friends, which is so cool to watch. Congrats!!!
  • Congrats! There's a two under two board that might be helpful for you to check out :)

My first two are 23 mos apart, so not even close to what you're about to experience, but even at that spacing I can see the benefit to having kids close together. I'm sure there will be hard days though. Good luck!

  • My son is only seven months old. Little more of a difference but similar. Although I haven't experienced it yet I agree with what everybody has already said. I'm still in baby mode so this will be an easy transition.
  • Thanks everyone! It helps to know that already being in baby mode helps...I appreciate all the advice
  • Congrats @tmarrie87 must be thrilling after trying so long with the first! My Mom and her sister are Irish twins and they have a very close bond, I think you'll do great.
  • My mom found out she was having twins when my brother was about 10 months old- so 3 in 18 months. She said it was fun, chaotic but fun. She said that the hardest part came when we all went to college at basically the same time.
  • My college roommate has 2 approximately 14 Mos apart. Makes me thankful we waited. It's crazy at her house.
