Nursing shirts

I know there was a post a while ago about nursing clothes, but I'm curious if anyone has any recommendations on nursing shirts now that we've all (I think) had our babies. Anyone found any specific nursing tops that they love? Or styles that work the best in public? Or styles that you hate that I should avoid?

I'm not going to invest in too many but I'd like to have a couple nursing tops that are super easy to use in public modestly now that I've discovered what a pain in the a$$ my cover is.

I'm looking at maybe this style: https://www.milknursingwear.com/store/pc/V-neck-empire-nursing-top-2p3906.htm

Re: Nursing shirts

  • I wear a nursing tank with a regular shirt on top. Pull top shirt up and tank down. Only your nipple is out and the baby's head covers it. Plus the tank covers your belly.

This! Or a button-up with a nursing tank underneath. Or a regular tank and a nursing bra. Or just a regular tank. I have to wear nursing pads anyway, so I often times just wear a tank and let the nursing pads keep my nipples from showing through my shirt. Im fairly small cheasted, though, even now.
  • I bought a few that pull up like the one you've linked in the post. I found pulling up of the shirt and pulling down of the nursing bra isn't the easiest. I'm about to go to Gap and get some of these! I think they'll work well and it will be chilly soon (here in Canada anyways). https://m.gap.com/product.html?dn=gp112769042&dv=1&shopid=0&pdn=gc1023948&outlet=false
  • I'm with PPs who use nursing tanks under normal shirts. I have three black ones in regular rotation. Plus a couple of dresses. The tank layering thing is so much more versatile than wearing maternity shirts, as you can just wear your normal shirts on top so you get more variety... Also basic tanks are cheaper, and you don't have to buy lots to get variety in what you wear.
  • God I hate all of the nursing shirts I have seen so far! I have seen the milk ones which I like but they are so expensive!
  • @leanne69, the one that I linked originally is on sale for $19.99.  Not too bad if you're only planning on buying a few.  Although @kahlya88 made a really good point about this style that I hadn't really thought about.
  • I sewed my own. They are loose with elastic in the neckline so I can pull the shirt down or nurse baby under the shirt (it is that loose). I haven't found anything like them in stores.
  • I bought a handful of different color nursing tshirts and tank tops from motherhood maternity. They are all expensive and styles are so limited. I found these to be the best universal options.
