TTC after 35

Intro (warning: child and loss mentioned)

I've been lurking for a few weeks and wanted to formally introduce myself. I am 37, DP (partner) is 38, and we have a 2.5 year old DS. We started TTC #2 in February after I had my mirena removed, and I thought it would take forever or never happen since it took 2 years with #1, and I was only 34 then. Well, in June I was shocked to get a BFP. At 8 weeks, I had a scan and saw the hb which was borderline and then, sadly, miscarried a few days later. We haven't really told anyone and it's been really difficult processing the loss on our own. We are back to TTC and have already had one unsuccessful cycle. The day I started spotting (4 days before AF), it hit me hard and all the grief and sadness of the miscarriage finally hit. I am on CD 3 now, picking up the pieces and getting ready to try again. I have a self diagnosed luteal phase defect that I've been treating with acupuncture, chinese herbs, vitex and natural progesterone cream after O. The BFP in June came after a couple of months of acupuncture and herbs and was the first cycle that I used progesterone cream after O, so I'm hoping that will be the winning combination to get our next, sticky BFP (although I used progesterone cream this last cycle and still ended up spotting 8dpo :(). Anyway, I'm not sure how often I'll post, but I will surely be lurking from time to time and wish all of you luck on this long, strange journey!

      • TTC #1 since August 2014
      • currently on 5th medicated IUI cycle
  • (((Hugs))))so sorry about the mc. I also had a short LP. Just like you I received accupuncture and take Chinese herbs. I also take other supplements coq10, omega 3, vit D, pnv & a few days b4 O robitussin. Is the progesterone cream OTC? Perhaps I need to use that too. Accupuncture has definitely helped me I use to have an on average 11 day LP, some cycles shorter. Last month it was 14, it's usually 13 or 14.

  • Welcome and so sorry for your loss.
  • Welcome!  I'm so sorry for your loss in June. It's a hurt like nothing else.
I'm also doing progesterone cream, but doing the Dr. Lee reset for PCOS.  It is supposed to also help with the LP defect. I feel like my LP is too short most months.  Anyway, I have a thread on this board if you want to check out what I'm doing.
Good luck with the acupuncture! I keep saying I'm going to go back to do it and haven't made time for it yet.
