Babies on the Brain

Introducing myself!

Hey all- I've been responding to a couple of posts today so I figured I should probably introduce myself. Oops!

I'm Shay, my fiancé and I have been together for 3 years and are getting married on the 25th! So soon! I wanted to go off BCPs a couple of months before getting married, but i didn't know how my body would react. I didn't want acne and/or my period on the big day. I plan to go off right after the honeymoon. Anyone else have the recommendation from they OB to be off birth control for at least 3 months before "REALLY" TTC?

Anyway- Fiance and I have some killer baby fever going and cannot wait to get going!

Cant wait to get to know all of you!

Re: Introducing myself!

  • Welcome and GL!

My OB told me that the average woman should anticipate that it can take 2-3 cycles after BCP to get back on your "normal" cycle, especially if you've taken it for a long time (10ish years). However, she also warned that some women's bodies are really sensitive and if they go off of BCP, they can get PG right away.

So based on my OB's input, would summarize with give yourself 2-3 cycles, but also be prepared that for some couples, it only takes one time;).

  • Thanks @gabpepsi for the warm welcome and quick input!
  • My periods returned to normal pretty much immediately, with a pretty predictable 27 day cycle. That said, we've been TTC since May after having stopped the BCP in September, so regular or irregular cycles don't necessarily mean anything.
  • Love your intro and welcome! It helps with the wait for sure.

Congratulations! You have some busy weeks ahead. Keep us updated and cannot wait to hear about your honeymoon!

I am seriously loving everyone coming out and joining in.
  • Thanks for being so welcoming already @HookEmNelson I was lurking on the TTC board and was too scared to post anything.. I'm sure if you lurk there too, you know why!
  • @als1982 I think my OB said it was because she wanted my endometrial layer to be built back up before I really start trying
  • @s&dswenson it definitely takes some time to know the way of the land on TTGP. They like science (for good reasons) and really like for everyone to participate in the most common sense way. Those ladies will catch a slip, but respect when others understand what lead to the snark. Keep lurking, you will do great, friend!
  • Welcome, you won't be alone with your baby fever here.

This. When I asked my doc what she recommended as far as going off BCP and TTC, she said it didn't really matter. She reminded me that it's possible to get pregnant by missing just one pill, so it's not going to make a difference whether I get off and get pregnant right away or if it takes a couple months.

Anyhoo, welcome! Congrats and good luck with the wedding! We just got married back in March after an almost two year engagement so the feeling of anticipation and excitement is still totally familiar to me! :) The day will be wonderful and amazing. Enjoy it. :)

  • Hi and welcome! I just had my first full cycle after getting off BCP and it returned as a normal, 28 day cycle (my cycles are usually very textbook). I was surprised since I've read so many women say it took them a couple cycles to regulate. Good luck!
