ive been told by a few women that after they gave birth their hair came out in clumps. Other women told me their hair was super healthy and thick even afterwards. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with either thing being true? Just wondering what to expect.

Re: Hair loss after pregnancy

  • Well, after i had my daughter my hair fell out, and I have a lot of hair. It was so much that my hair dresser started putting a treatment for my hair so it will  stop falling out. But like i mention before i have a lot of hair, so it didn't look bad, but it took forever for it to stop falling out and now I am pregnant again. So lets see what happens now.

Just remember this doesn't happen to everyone. My friends hair stayed the same, after she gave birth, so this doesn't happen to everyone.

  • I lost quite a bit of hair but not in clumps. It was most noticeable at my temples where it looked like I had the start of a receeding hairline. It started about 2 months PP and went on for a few months.
  • Pregnancy hormones keep you from shedding as much hair as you normally would. As such, after delivery some women lose all the hair they didn't lose during the pregnancy.

This is me now and it has just started growing back a little.  My hairline looks so weird.

I'm almost 6 months PP and I lose a decent amount of hair daily (shower, brushing, etc).

Mine just started to stop looking completely fugly at 10 months PP when I got pregnant again. I'm really curious what will happen this time with twins. Oh and by curious I mean terrified. I'm not incredibly vain, I don't wear makeup but I really like my hair.

This is what happened to me -- it was just thicker than usual when I gave birth.

I will say that I EBF and mine didn't start falling out until 3-4 months post-partum (and not in clumps, just a lot of extra shedding).  The ladies on my BMB who used formula seemed to lose their hair sooner and more drastically -- I think the hormone shift was more abrupt for them.
