Breastfeeding and Antibiotics (Please read)

Please learn from my story:  if you take antibiotics while breastfeeding, ask your physician for treatment for thrush in addition to the antibiotic.  (Antibiotics can cause thrush.)

I have thrush now in both of my nipples and it is the most painful, intolerable thing you can imagine!!!  It feels like I have ground-up glass in both of my nipples, shooting all the way deep into my breast, and each time Hazel latches on I cannot help but scream out in pain.  

If you plan to breastfeed for a year or more, keep this in mind!  It may come in handy some day!!

    Probiotics taken with the antibiotic can help too. Thrush is awful, good luck mama.

    I had to take antibiotics when LO was 2 weeks old for mastitis and I was soooooo nervous about getting thrush. I took probiotics and ate yogurt everyday. I didn't get it luckily, maybe by chance or maybe the probiotics/yogurt helped.

    I am currently battling thrush! I am taking an oral Ned called diflucan and tried nyastatin cream for my nipple. Nyastatin made my nipple symptoms worse so I switched to rinsing with Apple cider vinegar and using coconut oil. The oil even helps the baby's symptoms as well. Here's a link to a great article I found. And trust me I've done so much research. There a prescription med called APNO that is supposed to work wonders. I'm going to try it tonight. I hope you feel better. It's not fun.
