When is your Dr's cutoff for CD1?

It seems like different doctors say you have to have a full flow period by different times to call it CD 1..My current doctor says they want full flow by 5 pm to call it day 1.  My first RE said by 9 pm.
What is your Dr's cutoff and how important is it??

I just got my period on Saturday..when I went to the bathroom at 3pm it was just when I wiped..I then put a tampon in and when out on errands..when I got home at about 630 and took it out it was def full flow but I don't know exactly what time that started.  I counted it as CD1 because I def think it was at least by 5 if not before.  Plus my dr said bright red and when I wiped at three there wasn't much but I saw some bright red.

Just curious about different doctors

Re: When is your Dr's cutoff for CD1?

  • My clinic has 5pm cutoff as well. I have a similar problem though, the flow and color change frequently throughout the day, so sometimes I just give it my best estimate.

  • I thought my clinic said 5 was the cut off, but I started round 4:30 once and they counted CD1 as the next day. I would just call and explain to your doctor. He can make the judgment call based on his experience.

  • I think they have those weird times due to their own scheduling.

If you were able to fill a tampon, its definitely CD1.

  • Now I'm not so sure if I am on the right day but does it matter that much??

I know by 6:30 on Saturday when i checked it counts as full red flow.  I am assuming it was like that at 5 but I didn't actually check.  Would an hour and a half be a huge deal?  Does it really matter at all? I know they want me to start meds on cd 3 (which I did last night) but if it was technically cd2 is it really a big deal?? I am just not going to worry about it..oh well
  • My doc says 5pm is the cutoff, but they also tell me exactly when to start meds after that.  So if I started around 5 on Saturday, they would tell me to start meds on Monday.  They tend to over explain just incase :)
