Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

2nd consecutive miss after healthy baby...

Hello Everyone, I just had my second miscarriage in 3 months after having a healthy baby boy last year.  I know I should feel blessed, and I do, that I have my little boy, but we just know in our hearts that our family is not yet complete, and would love to have more children. Both misses happened right around the 5 week mark.  I have a call into my doctor to see what my next steps are.  We don't have family or friends near by as we recently moved to a new state, so I don't really have anyone to talk to about this...and its just not a conversation I want to have with anyone over the phone. Anyone have any advise about the next steps to prevent this from happening a third time?

Re: 2nd consecutive miss after healthy baby...

  • I can't say I have any advise but I can relate. I have a beautiful 18 month old boy. We too feel our family is not complete and would love to give our son a brother or sister. 2 weeks ago I went for a dating ultrasound thinking I was approx 10 weeks, only to find out th baby stop growing at 5 weeks. My doctor thought my dates might be off so we waited another 2 weeks. A couple days before my next ultrasound I started having bad cramps and spotting. Sure enough I was having a miscarriage. sometimes it's just nice to hear other people's experiences, I know it's help me over he past few days. I'll be going for blood work the next few weeks until my levels are down to 0. Then il be talking with my doctor to see what my next steps are. I'm honestly terrified to try for another baby but I want another child so bad. I'm so sorry for your loss, I could t imagine going through a MC twice. I hope you have a successful pregnancy in the near future. Good luck to you

  • So sorry for you loss. I know how you feel. I've had 2 losses as well except i had a healthy pregnacy in between them and now have a 2 year old son. My OB doesn't recommend any testing since i did have one healthy pregnancy. I just had a d and c three weeks ago and now waiting for my levels to go down. Im having another blood draw tomorrow. I had one a week ago and it was 9000.
  • Sorry for your loss- same has happened to me- I had a easy normal pregnancy with my son- got pregnant within a cycle of trying.. When he was 16 months old we decided then to try for #2 got pregnant again right away- lost that baby at 6 weeks naturally-the next month found out I was pregnant again- lost that baby at 8 weeks ha. A d&c.. Then we decided to wait a few months.. In June after 3 month break we tried again- got pregnant again and lost that one as well at 8 weeks and had another d&c. It's so crazy- after how easy things were with my son I had assumed the same the 2nd time around- I decided I wanted myself and my husband to get checked out- bottom line is doctors can say things like "oh it's just some bad luck you don't have to rush to get checked out right away" like my dr said- but ultimately it's your chose- so I decided to take this cycle now (6 weeks post 2nd d&c) and my husband and I both have done the work up for recurrent miscarriages. I would ask for it if you would like to try to get some answers.. Good luck to you!!
  • Sorry for your losses... I have no advice, but I too had two in a row early mc's after two healthy babies which really threw me. I didn't get any testing or anything after the second, but then got pg again and had a healthy baby. But then after that had yet another loss. I've had the gamut of testing done now after the third loss. Most doctors don't go all out on the testing until after three losses. Has your doctor given you a plan of action??
