Regaining milk supply

Hello Mommy's my milk has been slowly peeking itself down. ( I know it's my fault of skipping some pumps as well) but I was wondering if it is possible to regain back my supply & how long does it take to see an increase. My boobs hurt so bad as if they were full but the stay soft & I get about 2 ounces out of each side. When I am used to getting about 4 ounces from each side every pump. Please help. :)

Re: Regaining milk supply

  • I have been trying every trick in the book! I have been eating lactation cookies (with Brewers yeast, oats and linseed), taking fenugreek and blessed thistle capsules, and trying to pump every two hours during the day. Something is working as my supply is doing pretty well at the moment (average 100ml per pump, which is more than enough for LO at the moment). Good luck!

  • Drown yourself in water as a first step before going out and buying products, this for me has often been the quickest fix on days where I freak out that I'm not producing enough.
  • Try power pumping, (pump 10M, rest10m-repeat 3X) a couple times a dayand drinking lots of water. Stay consistent with the pumping intervals every 2hrs.

There have been quite a few posts on this if you skim around the first couple pages, I'm sure you'll find some more helpful tips also. GL

  • I was having supply issues in the evening and had both an LC and my aunt who is a doula and raised 4 babies tell me to drink a Guiness or two in the evening. I had 2 on Thursday and 1 on Friday and suddenly I'm so full I leaked through my avent breast pads.
  • @abmommy15 my LC recommended it too! I'll indulge today lol
  • Well, no one has to pull my leg to get a guiness!!

I was going to say drink lots of water and coconut water as well. It helps me with getting at least 1 ounce more then usual
  • @abmommy15 is this specific to Guinness? Or are other beers just the same?
  • @candicejeff2013 I was only told Guiness so I'm not sure if other beers would work as well
  • ^^ ha. A girl can only hope. I don't have any Guinness on hand...
  • @candicejeff2013 Any really hoppy beer will work. I've had the best luck with Guinness, though. Eating oatmeal every morning helped my supply, also.
  • I think Brewers yeast is the beer ingredient that's supposed to help with lactation. You can add it to anything if, like me, you find beer repulsive
  • Drinking guinness really does help supply? I'm 5 weeks pp. Just shy to indulge in beer but if it helps supply. It won't be bad for baby? This is my first so everything is new.
  • @jlm684 I usually feed my son and then indulge in a beer. Alcohol leaves your milk the same way it does your blood so after about an hour (depending on your weight) there would be no alcohol in your milk. My Dr and LC both told me this.

I wish! I love beer but hate Guinness. Would have loved an order from the doc to drink more beer if it didn't have to be Guinness!
