Baby running out of room?

So I noticed this past week (im 35w+5) increased movement in my little girl. I can tell she's rolling around. I thought movement was supposed to decrease do to running out of space. Im quite short (5'1") with a short torso so I know I dont provide a lot of leg room so to speak. I just wonder with the increased movement and lack of space if she is getting uncomfortable in there. I just feel badly if she is! Should I worry about her moving around more or is this normal?

  • I've noticed more movement too. I am also short (5'2" ish) with a short torso. Baby girl is riding really high and loves stretching her legs into my ribs. I'm only 33 weeks, but I figure I'm feeling more movement now because she is bigger and stronger. I'm sure once space is totally limited and she has dropped, I'll feel less of the rolling movements.
  • I think more movement isn't necessarily "more movement," but the movement is more noticeable because baby is getting bigger and amniotic fluid is less. There is a lot less cushion after 30 weeks or so.

The movement becomes more noticeable due to the size of the baby like @VioletandRose said. The kicks and rolls become stronger. But movement will start to decrease but you'll feel it stronger.
  • I'm 6'0 tall and this little dude is running out of room at 34 weeks. I have a feeling he's going to be very long! The nurse practitioner said it felt like his butt was up in my ribs and his head is right above my pubic bone. That's probably around 12 inches without his legs, and those feel like they're everywhere.
  • Movement shouldn't decrease. If it ever does call ur doc immediately.
  • An interesting tidbit that my midwife told me...no matter how tall you are, you uterus grows to the same size...it should be about a cm for each week you are....so if you are 34 weeks, then it is 34 centimeters.....I thought that was pretty cool.

I'm also 5'1" and sounds like we have the same EDD (10/11?). I've also felt increased movement but like others are saying it's probably him just getting stronger. Sometimes he shakes my whole body and it feels similar to an earthquake! (I'm in southern CA)

I didn't even think about that...makes sense though!
  • I'm 37 weeks, and he still moves quite a bit and it hurts! It's like an alien is in there. He just went head down, was transverse (sideways) But yeah, when they get bigger, you'll feel them a lot more. It's not just little kicks cause they're floating around in there, it's huge rolling movements

Yeah, that's the basis of the fundal height measurements they do with the measuring tape, right?
  • @SaraFaye715 - at our hospital, every check up they do they measure fundal height, from pubic bone to the top of the uterus... But I would think that if you were already on the larger side, wouldn't that make your fundal height bigger? Like if there is excess weight? Not being rude at all, just something I wondered about lol :)

Yeah I wonder about this too..most of my access weight is in my booty and love handles at this point. I had a little weight in my front when I got pregnant but all I see is tight round baby tummy...so who knows. The fat is still there somewhere lol.
  • Being tall, broad and slightly overweight pre-baby I can say from experience that fundal height should actually measure the same as a thin petite person.
