New Harmony Prenatal Test?

I'm looking to get feedback from others who got the Harmony Prenatal Test or the newer version with additional testing options.

I've taken this test 3 times. The first at 10 weeks and the second at 12 weeks and both came back with insufficient results. Apparently because of my higher BMI I have a higher volume of blood and they are having a hard time detecting the fetal fractions of DNA. I was going to give up on taking this, but my OB convinced me to give it another try. Apparently the sales rep for Harmony visited the office. The company got bought out and is offering a new version of the test that also has other genetic testing options.

I opted to try it once more because I'm hoping that at 14 weeks there is more fetal fractions of DNA and that maybe this new test is more sensitive. To be honest I'm young and no family history of genetic defects so that wasn't much of a concern. I really just wanted an accurate gender of the baby (ultra scans aren't exactly fool proof). Has anyone else successfully got results from this test, particularly ladies with higher BMI? Has anyone tried this new version of the Harmony test?

Re: New Harmony Prenatal Test?

  • I've never done the Harmony test. There are other options out there, such as MaterniT21 and Panorama that do the same thing. Are either of those options for you?

  • My OB did mention some other testing options. He also said if this 3rd comes back with insufficient results that he would like me to see a specialist that does an ultrasound. I'd rather take the other blood test options.
  • I had the same problem twice "insufficient DNA" and then my doctor and I came to the realization that the lab tech taking my blood was using a butterfly needle when they should have used a regular gauge needle for drawing blood. 3rd time we got enough DNA and results when they used the right needle. Harmony allows retesting for free and gives money back if no result can be given.
  • A fool proof way to find out your baby's sex would be to wait until you deliver. :)

No, it's not worth it if it's because "I really just wanted an accurate gender of the baby." if that is your concern then don't waste the resources. Surprised insurance covered more than one.....That's not cool that finding out how your kid is going to pee/reproduce (if he/she decides to) is more of your concern than knowing the odds of having chromosomal abnormalities. :(
My brain totally skipped over that part. My suggestions were just for genetic screenings, in general.
