Canker Sores, Anyone?

I always get canker sores when stressed/when my immune system isn't super awesome, so it doesn't really shock me that I'm getting them now. One just healed and another is starting to form. Noooooo! Stahp! :(

And of course anbesol is Category C.

I've used it sparingly when I could no longer take the pain. Mostly, I'm used to canker sores. Sigh.

Re: Canker Sores, Anyone?

  • I get them when I am sick or over heated. A doctor once told me I was the worst case she had ever seen. I try to take lysene to ward them off but of course it's on the do not take list when pg! I was wondering as well if anyone else gets them and what their plan of attack is while pg.

Chewing on whatever side of my mouth is not in agony lol.
Which doesn't work when multiple ones spring up, which happens.

  • I get canker sores really bad when I'm stressed! I hate flying and get really worked up on planes, and once I got four in the back of my throat after flying back from Europe, it was terrible. I do notice that when I'm really consistent with using mouthwash daily, that I tend to not get them as much. But sometimes that isn't enough. They are the worst, I feel your pain!

I used to take zinc tabs (the dissolving ones you take to prevent colds) but I will probably avoid them for now.

I have found that rinsing my mouth twice per day with a hydrogen peroxide rinse really helps. Get the 3% hydrogen peroxide a pharmacy, mix with water and swish for a few mins. Just don't swallow! It seems to help them heal faster. You can also use salt water but it burns.

ETA: I only do the rinse when I have the canker sores, not every day. I've also heard that B vitamins can help.
  • I have been getting canker sores since I was a kid, they are the worst! Especially when you have two or three close together that end up melding into one :((

I haven't got one since I got my BFP, but I usually hold luke warm tea bags on them - it was my grandmothers remedy and I do feel like it eases some of the pain. I also read once to soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and hold it on for a minute (or however long you can stand it - it hurts like a @$;&!). It ends up numbing it for a while and they always seem to heal within a day or two of doing that so I feel like it speeds up the process.

Good luck! Fx they get better quick!

  • I got them like crazy my first trimester with my DS. I stayed away from my usual Acyclovir until second trimester when my OB sent in a refillable prescription, but I never used it. I found Campo-phenique ointment at Walgreen's and actually continued using it even after my DS was born because I found it worked so well. The pharmacist ok'd it for me as well! If they're in the mouth, I rinse with peroxide/water, which seems to help a bit.

  • I don't get these very often, but when I do I use alum. It's in the spice aisle. You just dab some on and let it sit until you can't hold your mouth open anymore and then spit it out.

It's tastes a little bad, but it makes them go away so fast!

It's not a medication, but obviously I would still confirm with your doctor that it's okay to use.

  • I normally get them when I'm stressed out but it's been bad for me too since getting KU. Listerine is my go to remedy, I try to rinse with it at least twice a day. It hurts a little but numbs the area and kills any bacteria, which seems to heal them faster.
  • Late to the party but when i get them I pour rubbing alcohol on them. It burns so bad you just want to scream. But it dries out the sore and is usually healed in a day or so.
