Talk to me about jeans...

I made the tragic mistake last postpartum of wearing maternity jeans for far too many months. It wasn't until I saw a picture of myself I realized that I looked 3 months pregnant for 11 months. I'm buying myself some fat jeans for now but would like them to look decent. What brands do you all love?

I usually end up with GAP curvy because they aren't too pricey. If I ever lose enough weight then I would spring for something more expensive like Joe's jeans or citizen. Am i dating myself??? No clue what's in these days.

  • I'm in my gap curvy right now and I love them.

  • My question is when will jeans be comfortable?!? I'll be 3 weeks PP tomorrow and I still feel like I've been kicked in the crotch (not sure if this is typical or not). When I go out I have a loose pair of pregnancy cotton capris that I wear but they def aren't flattering. I'm still timid to even wear my pregnancy jeans just because of the pain! W cooler weather coming, I wish I'd be comfortable in jeans!
  • I wear LEI. Walmart sells them for like 15 to 20 per pair. They are aimed at teenagers though so I have to dig around to find some without holes or other "trendy" things.

The other brand I like is Arizona (but only if I can find a pair with the flared style).

Basically I have the same figure type as before I was pregnant. Small waist and wide hips.. anything that flares at the bottom balances me out well. Most non junior jeans though seem to be straight leg or skinny jeans which look bad on me, so I usually have to get my jeans from the teen section.
  • I like Target's brand. JCP also sells some comfy ones. I buy boot cut.
  • I watched a movie on netflix today out of boredom while DH painted our "gym" (he made the garage into a gym for me bc I was worried about being able to make it to the gym once LO was here). Anyways, its about a woman who got a muffin top just while trying to conceive...it didnt make me feel better about the squish ive got going on, but it made me laugh!! If youre bored during MOTN feeding it will make your sleep deprived mind giggle even though its super corny.
  • LEI from Walmart pre-pregnancy. If I need to but more in a larger size (went up a size a size early in pregnancy) I will go there again. Price is great and they do fit well for my curvy frame.

I also made the mistake of putting pre-prego jeans on. I think it's safe to say it looked like I had two stomachs- band cut me off at the belly button. I cried for an hour. I'll stick to leggings for now. I refuse to go shopping after breaking the bank with all the maternity stuff!

Edit: But I hear NY&Co might have some good jeans to suck it all in- according to my mommy friends.
  • Jealous of anyone who can somehow fit into jeans...

But I like the jeans from Walmart too. And if there's a Kmart near you (yes there's still a few out there), they've got a brand called Route66 that are really comfy.

I just watched that the other day too. Watching awful movies on Netflix is one of my guilty pleasures and this fit the bill.

I'm not bothering with jeans yet. My stomach is still a ball of dough that hangs over the yoga pants I sport daily. My nearly 3 year old loves to squish it. I've worn my maternity jeans on the couple occasions where I had to be somewhere that yoga pants weren't acceptable.
  • I love Big Star jeans. They're a little spendy but I can usually get good deals on them on 6pm.com (zappos clearance site). Good luck, finding jeans that fit well can be so tough!

  • I fit back into my Lauren Conrad jeans so far. And I'm embarrassed to even say this because I'm a grown up, but aeropastel's jeans always fit me really well when I'm on my heavier side, and American eagle fit me well when I'm on my thinner side.
  • I tried on EVERY SINGLE PAIR of jeans I own, and came out of it severely disappointed. The closest I came to success was about 3 inches from buttoning my fattest jeans. Lol the saddest part is that I thought I had my figure back already. [-(
  • I like joe's!

I tried one time to get jeans on. Wouldn't even go past my thighs. Nope... Not trying again for a good long while. I put the warning out to all my leggings and yoga pants. Plus I've always liked the leggings, tall socks and boots look for fall... I'm not going to stress about jeans.

Edit for MOTN feed spelling brain.

The thing about pregnancy is it can shift your body. You may be the same weight as you were PP (not you necessarily just using you as an example) and still can't fit your clothes. Why you may ask? Because your hips have spread. Your boobs are much wider and larger. It could be a plethora of different reasons. Pregnancy changes your body. No doubt.
This is the case for me. Can't pull my pre pregnancy jeans up over my hips, and I am 6 weeks post partum
  • Sam's sells some great jeggings!
  • @CaliforniaDream87 so what kind of pre pregnancy jeans do the cool people wear???

  • My prepregnancy ones are about 3" from buttoning and I don't own leggings. Where does one buy leggings? I'm bottom heavy and never owned a pair because I assume I'll look awful, but I've gotta try something!

Baby Will born 8/18. He's perfect.
  • American Eagle and Gap. AE jeans usually have a little bit of give to them. I fit back into those the quickest because of that.
  • I'm just barely plus size. After my last baby I bought a pair of jeans at lane bryant. Best decision I ever made. They are designed to help with "trouble" areas and are comfortable. I get a lot of compliments when I wear them.
  • I like old navy's jeans. They have a few different fits so I have always been able to find what fits me ok. And I always get the stretch jeans! Especially since I now have an incision just below my pant line and I am terrified of it rubbing.

  • I can fit into my prepregnancy jeans but I'm still so numb (like a 3 inch wide band of numbness above my incision) after my c-section, I can't stand how they feel! I don't like having them buttoned and sitting on my numb area. I'm only just starting to get a little tingly feeling back in certain areas and I'm almost 7 weeks postpardom now. I've been wearing these palazzo pants I got super cheap at target since they are soft and flow-y. I'm totally a jeans girl though so I'm so ready to wear them whenever (if ever) this numbness goes away.
  • I am back in my pre-pregnancy jeans because they are so stretchy they're basically leggings! They're the most flattering jeans I own and I love them. DL1961. Buy them a little bit tight now and I swear they'll still fit when you lose weight. And your butt will look fab.
  • I'm up two sizes since pre pregnancy. I gained a bit of weight this pregnancy and it goes to my butt. I went to Marshalls and got some stretchy skinny jeans that feel more like leggings. Just go up to the size you need now... it's going to look better than fluffing over the top of jeans that are too tight in my opinion

@jesselayne8 cool kids, eh? I don't consider myself *cool* or anything.

Honestly, I'm not really a denim girl. I run a retail district here in Southern California and it's a fairly high fashion company. Jeans are a bit too casual so I only really own about 7-8 pair. I like joes, Bebe, BCBG and guess jeans. Those fit me the best. It really is about the fit you like and your body type.

And I love leggings but I have a serious problem with people who wear see through leggings as pants. Just no. If you're going to wear a legging please let's make sure we can't see through them :)

  • Jeans shmeans....I tried on some pre preggo ones just now and muffin top and muffin bottom lol. The csec shelf/pooch is pissing me off, that and my thighs are a smidge bigger than before so I look ridiculous....and I cried and cursed myself for being a fatass, I thought about buying one pair of fat jeans but then again I don't want to get comfy in them and stay there either...I wish it was cooler here in AZ so I could wear leggings with cute oversized tips and boots or a dress....sigh I can't wait to be able to slip on my wranglers again
  • On the positive side, I really do like my ass in some leggings right now. ;)
