@HookEmNelson I actually just bought the Woman's One A Day with DHA since that's what my obgyn recommended this summer when I told her about plans to TTC.
I was so excited! And also a little like so begins spending elevated amounts of money for future LO. I try to be frugal, but when it comes to baby health, they've got me. I mean c'mon.

@gabpepsi I'm telling that first year isn't the expensive one. I'm on year 4 with my son and it is now getting to the expensive part. Everyone wants to buy him toys instead of clothes, hah! He just had a birthday and now owns everything Star Wars and came out of the party with a set of pajamas. Then we have soccer starting next weekend. Shit is expensive.
@HookEmNelson That makes sense. My DH has 5 siblings who so far have 10 children between them so before we moved I was the family babysitter and could totally empathize with the fact that they seem to get more expensive as they aged!
The only thing that gives me heartburn already is childcare. Especially because we don't live near family, it will be interesting to see what we come up with and where we net out.
My mom is always saying, "You'll figure it out. If you think daycare is expensive, wait until you're sending them to college." So there's that!
@Lysta85 that's a great idea. My DH is always pushing me to take vitamins because if not I probably wouldn't think about it. Now that I'm back in the swing of running and trying a healthy diet, I'm looking forward to getting prenatals and all the benefits into my routine too.
I take an adult multi-vitamin everyday that has 400mg folic acid. It's the Costco Kirkland brand. We are not planning to TTC for a year and my OB said what I take is fine. I may switch to prenatals when we TTC, but I will see...
@gabpepsi it will all work out for sure. You never know and might be able to find something just perfect for future baby. And what a big family you are a part of! How far are you away did y'all move?
@HookEmNelson We're about 14-16 hours away from our families. My husband has a huge family and I have a little one (just 1 sibling). I'm currently planning to replicate the small family experience for us, but I guess you never know. I could see myself with just 1 LO if I thought that would be good for DH. He used to push for 3-4 kids but now is saying 2 should be plenty (I think he's nervous to be last in line for attention behind too many now that he's used to getting attention for a change!)
We left to find jobs - and were successful and love our careers - but since we're the only members of our families that left the area let alone the state, we're definitely having to navigate everything on our own as we go! It's made our relationship strong but cost of living high. So far it's balanced out fine, though:).
@gabpepsi yes, I like them. At least I haven't had any problems with them anyway. I do however supplement with extra folic acid because of a mild case of spina bifida, but that is a personal thing and nothing to do with the prenatals themselves.
Feeling really excited today as I purchased prenatals for the first time to prepare for TTC.
How many of you have started prenatals so far? What prenatals do you take or have you had recommended to you?
That's awesome!! I have also started prenatals. I take the First Response Reproductive Health gummies. They are especially for women who are TTC but don't know that they are KU yet. There is a different First Response prenatal gummy that you switch to when you are KU. I love the taste of the gummies, and actually look forward to taking them.
I'm taking Rainbow Light Prenatal One. I wanted one with iron since I'm also a vegetarian, and I think they've helped my energy! They're annoying to swallow but you get used to it, and zero digestive problems.
I'm not a huge fan of supplements and I have a hard time remembering to take prenatals. But since my oldest child takes her meds every morning it is probably the least I can do to set mine out there for myself too!
@gabpepsi We have similar situations it sounds like. We are 23 hours from all close friends and any family. Makes me nervous to be TTC #1 that far from valuable help. But, like momma says, "you'll do a fine job and you'll do what you can." My DH is wonderful and I know he'll be a great help but there's just something daunting about being so far from everyone at such a new/challenging time. We have some friends here but sometimes I worry about not having the grandparents close when you're having those moments where you feel like you're losing it and need a non-judgmental person to rescue you haha. Maybe I'm being dramatic.
As for the original question: I'm on centrum prenatals + dha. I hate swallowing pills and have a finicky gut and as long as I take them with food at dinner time, they're treating me well.
I used to take prenatal gummies, but found that they had folate and little else. I switched to Up and Up Prenatal Vitamins (compare to Stuart Prenatal). I really like that they have iron and zinc (along with vitamin A, B, C, D, and E). Plus they are half the price of the gummies! Every dollar counts when you start calculating future baby gear
I've been taking the Women's One a Day with DHA but am currently on Amazon debating the Rainbow Light ones since they're less expensive. I wish there was a clear option. I didn't get an opinion from my doctor so I'm just going with these boards. I'd be lost without y'all!

My attitude is that whatever you can deal with taking consistently (including working with your budget)=good. Sure there are small differences but I bet they're all pretty similar except for the big presence or absence of DHA and iron, and any digestive side effects.
@Xstatic3333 ... you're right. My friend is a pharmacist and says they're generally all very similar and that as long as there's enough folic acid, that's the most important feature.

there is hardly any difference between my "normal" multivitamins and the prenatals (from a different brand). just a little bit more folic acid and vit D. that's all.
I take Enfamil Expecta which has the multivitamin and gel DHA softgels. I took a chance and just picked on that had the most of each supplement and they seem to work for me. I now order off of amazon because they can get pricey per month, at the store they are $20 and on amazon they are only $12 so I buy multiple months at a time.
Re: Prenatals
I take Woman's One A Day with DHA. Thinking of going the gummy route, but for now this what is going in the bod.
What did you buy?
