i just went to a walk in clinic for something unrelated and told them I had an iui 6 days ago and they drew blood and it can back negative. Of course it made me really upset even though the doctor said he thinks it's to early and I know that but I have been feeling so weird and to get a negative test really bummed me out.
I definitely think it's too early to tell if you are pregnant. Implantation does not occur usually until 7-11 days after ovulation. Don't get discouraged!!
If there was fertilization, the blastocyst wouldn't begin to implant until Day 6 (Day 1 being 24 hours after IUI, because fertilization takes about 24 hours to complete). On Day 7 the embryo continues to burrow into the endometrium lining. Only on Day 8- Day 9 do maternal capillaries reach the implanting blastocyst, which is why it's impossible to detect HCG in the blood before that. In one study I read (I'm in the medical field), HCG is first detected in blood between 8-11 days after fertilization in about 90% of pregnancies that go on to deliver a healthy baby (i.e. if HCG is not detected by Day 11 in the blood, there is a much smaller chance of going on to have a viable pregnancy, though exceptions are always possible!). If HCG is not detected in the blood by 13 days after fertilization, they did not find any pregnancies that went on to deliver a healthy baby (i.e. they DID detect the first HCG after 13 days in the blood in some women, but those ultimately ended up being non viable pregnancies). I want to make sure you know this is detecting HCG in blood, not in urine. Urine detection trails behind blood detection by a few days, and is more variable person to person depending on kidney filtering and how quickly the individual breaks down HCG. I know this sounds very clinical/technical, and if it seems too removed please just let me know. I find data and statistics to be comforting, but I totally understand that others may not!!
Also sending happy hopeful thoughts your way! I'm terrible at the 2ww. I want to pee on sticks all the time, even when I logically know there is actually no chance of getting a positive yet. :-)
@happymonkeys that was extremely helpful. That made me feel much better. I just haven't been feeling myself. Yesterday and today I have a slightly raised temp of 99.5 and just feel like a cold is coming. It's a messed up way to play with your mind during the 2ww!
@islagirl1218 I was just wondering how you were doing and if you got a BFP yet or not? I know the day after I had my ivf I got an awesome head and chest cold I was thrilled and feared it was going to ruin everything. Was just thinking of you and thought I would check in.
