After many incidents of early bleeding and a crappy number of losses between 6-15 weeks, I FINALLY met a a doctor that explained to me what was happening.
As the little embryo starts to burrow into your uterus, little finger-like villi reach out to "grasp" into your uterine lining. Very frequently, one will burst through a capillary, hence blood. It has to go somewhere. It is perfectly normal! Scary, absolutely. It continues to happen as the placenta develops, so it isn't uncommon nor a sign that something is wrong. Additionally, capillaries burst in your cervix for no reason at all.
I'm sorry to sound like a smarty-pants. I have seen a number of posts and I only wanted to share my knowledge and experience so that it may hopefully help alleviate some anxiety. Something so easily explained is strangely not very well-known. I think all OBGYN/MW should know instead of having a terrified mom-to-be come into their office and be told "I don't know what is happening and you might miscarry. I'm sorry."
I can't say this is a 100% fact, as I'm sure there are a decent number of other reasons for pregnancy bleeding, but this was one that was explained to me by a perinatologist that made a lot of sense and has helped me.
Best wishes and sticky vibes all around!
