Baby Acne

My twelve day old baby boy has got a face like a pizza and it breaks my heart. What to Expect in the First Year just says water, but do you ladies know any other tips or tricks? I feel bad not wanting to show him off because it's like I've got a dirty baby :-S

Re: Baby Acne

  • I think you have to just let it run its course. Mt LO is 2 weeks old and I noticed a few tiny white bumps on her cheek. From what I've read, it's from my hormones and it will clear up on its own in a week or so. It said don't put any creams or ointments on it.

  • It's hormones, you just have to let it clear up on its own. My DS1 had it pretty bad. It was just a few weeks and they were all gone.

  • Don't worry, it will go away. Give it a few weeks.
  • Yep just warm water and time. It'll go away. People understand babies break out, no need to be embarrassed
  • Our midwife recommends putting breast milk on their face. Makes it look crusty but it works
  • I second the breastmilk. I would also recommend changing the washcloth you use everyday so you aren't rubbing the same yuck back into the baby's face. It looks crazy but it'll be gone before you know it
  • Breastmilk clearedy sons up quickly.
  • Baby's skin is still super thin in the beginning, time will take away the transparency and acne look. With DS1 I found it showed up more after his baths, so I only bathed him about 2x a week the first few months. Other than the diaper area, they don't really get too dirty, and frequent baths can dry out their skin as well.

  • My son had it pretty bad. It will just go away on its own. It's just from the hormone changes after birth. Don't be embarresed it is just something that happens! I'm sure he is still so adorable:)
  • It also has to do with what your eating... Everything goes into the breastmilk so you might need to try changing what your eating and see if that helps clear it up. My sisters doctor figured out she couldn't eat any fried foods or chocolate and the nieces acne cleared up in literally two days once she changed her diet
