Mini-crib vs regular crib

What are your experiences? FTM, so not even sure what things I need to consider. Something smaller would be nice, since we have a 1 bedroom apartment. I'm looking at a convertible, so it will still have that function.

Anyone who got a mini and ended up regretting it?

Re: Mini-crib vs regular crib

  • My son was born 22.5 inches long. He didn't last long in a mini crib in our bedroom, and we ended up having to reduce our bedroom furniture to accommodate a larger crib in the end, so we spent twice the money.

  • Were in a 1 bedroom too. Just switched from a mini crib to a convertible crib. Our son is 7 months and was already too big and mobile for it. Love the convertible crib. The only complaint is that most convertible cribs require you to buy a convertible kit with them. We found a crib that didn't luckily but it limited our choices.

DS was 23.5 inches. I am glad we had a full sized crib. He hardly fit inside of my snuggle nest (co sleeper). RNP lasted 5 months and then he grew out of it, too!
  • Another 22 inch newborn here. She didn't fit in the cosleeper after a week! So she just slept in our bed :)
  • Loved having a normal crib that is also convertible. It was so easy transitioning to a toddler bed that way, as it was the same crib transformed.

  • normal crib that is convertible all the way. Your LO will grow out of mini fairly quickly and you'll have to buy regular toddler bed or convertible anyway
  • My grandmother bought a mini crib to be used by us, and then for all future great-grandchildren. It sounds, reading this thread, that most people are describing more of a bassinet. What we have is an actual miniature crib, Alpha by Davinci. Any one else use one of these? How long did you use it for?
Baby number 1 on the way!

  • I'm in the 22 inch newborn club. So glad to have a full size crib.
  • FTM so this is no personal experience but I also was looking into mini cribs. I was surprised that weight-wise many can hold just as much as a regular crib. Obviously though if you have a long baby the weight doesn't even matter.

We have little to no room. Lol. A crib is out of the question for now. However, I found a almost brand new, old school wooden rocking cradle on Craigslist. It came with a firm pad and in perfect shape (until my pups chewed on it a little, still mad at them). $40!!
I was pumped! Looked it up and it can hold up to 30 lbs and is surprisingly big/not too big. It's easy to move around and just all around perfect for what I'm going for.
    And of course it's adorable.
By the time baby outgrows it, we'll hopefully have something else figured out.
My niece is almost 9 months and she could still fit in it safely, and she is a long girl!
