7 week old refuses bottle

My 7 week old is refusing the bottle. I go back to work in a couple weeks so I obviously wanted to get him used to taking a bottle.

I have tried a couple different kinds but nothing seems to work. When I put it in his mouth he either chews on it or doesn't even try to suck. My husband has even tried to do it when I have left the house for a bit to run errands.

I am starting to get really stressed about it,... Any suggestions??

Re: 7 week old refuses bottle

  • Have you tried faster flow nipples? Sometimes the slow flow ones are too slow. I've also had friends use the soft top sippy cups in lieu of bottles.

  • We're in the same boat and it's making me panic because I go back to work soon. No advice but you're not alone.
  • Make sure you're inserting the nipple far enough in his mouth to stimulate the roof of his mouth.
  • I was told to try starting it first thing in the morning, when baby is pretty hungry.

  • I'm having this same problem! She won't even latch onto the nipple of the bottle. And don't waste you money on medela 'calma' bottles and nipples. They don't work.
  • I had that problem too but this week had to start supplementing to help baby gain weight and was advised to get someone else to offer the bottle.....also found that using the same brand bottle as the soothers LO uses worked (MAM ones)
Didn't like the calma bottles either!
  • My LO refused the bottle for a couple of weeks until he finally started taking it occasionally and then all the time. We just kept trying everyday and he finally just started accepting it. We also realized he had to have it really warm. He won't take it if it is anything under 105 degrees! We even have to warm it up partway through the feed if it cools to much before he is done.
