When are you moving your LO to a crib?

hi ladies! We currently have our LO in a rock & play (hated the bassinet) and wanted to know when you are moving your baby into their crib. I am BFing so it is easy having the baby next to my bed but figure we have to move him eventually. When did you/are you moving your baby over??thanks!

Re: When are you moving your LO to a crib?

  • We're going to introduce the crib around the 3 month mark, but just for naps during the day. It will be a gradual transition and we hope to have her in there full time by 3.5-4 months. We're going to just follow her cues. She is not quite independent enough to be happy in her own room yet, but she is getting there!

  • My son is 3 weeks old and has some naps in his crib and some in bassinet in my room. I will move him to his room for night time when he is sleeping through the night (EBF). Naps will increasingly be moved to his room over time
  • DS naps in the crib but we will move him around 3 months just like we did with his brother.

  • We put our little one in his crib at 8 days. We have it so he's at the bottom though so he moves up in his sleep. He's now a month old. So happy with the choice. We all sleep better with him in his own room
  • I am so ready to put LO in her crib but her crib is in the guest room so I have to wait until our stream of visitors leaves next weekend. I will probably sleep in there with her for another 4-6wks. Right now we are in the living room and I am on the couch.

  • I'm thinking between 2-3 months. She will be sharing a room with DD1 though, so I'm not sure how it will go.
  • My LO did at least 1 nap in her crib from day one. At 2 weeks she went to her crib full time. I was putting her in her crib until her first MOTN feeding around 1230 -1 and then bringing her back in with us, but I noticed she was sleeping so much sounder in her own room. I think because of Daddys snoring. I was so upset, but at 4 weeks she has been sleeping in her room every night and never wakes up screaming, crying like shes scared. I think bc I had done the nap in there from day one and I always take her in there to change her. Plus, im in the room the second she wakes up whether MOTN or for a nap. I had no intentions of her leaving our room until I went back to work at about 12 weeks though. :(( We put her at the top of her crib. I had seen on her before putting them at the top or bottom makes it seem not so big to LO.
  • We are planning on moving her there at around 3 months. She is currently sleeping in the rock and play AND / OR cosleeper. Some nights she loves the cosleeper and other nights she just rolls around and makes strange animal noises all night soooo....
  • We intended to keep our daughter in our room until she was at least six weeks old, but our pediatrician told us at her two week appointment that the Rock & Play is not safe to sleep in for hours at a time. He mentioned that it has been linked to many cases of SIDS. We immediately reevaluated after this conversation and decided to put her in the Pack & Play. Unfortunately, the Pack & Play is so hard, and our baby is a very loud sleeper! We moved her to her crib at four weeks and she hardly even noticed the transition. She is now six weeks and sleeping for 5-6 hour stretches at a time.
  • We did it between 4-6 weeks.  His grunting at night was beginning to be too much and hubby gets up VERY early in the A.M to work so he essentially gave him the boot (and I agreed).  We didn't just do it in one night though, but over a series of nights.  Eventually he learned to sleep in his crib and now sleeps in it no problem (although lately I have been sneaking him back into our room in his bassinet while hubby is gone  ;).  Guess I'll have to start having him sleep completely in his crib starting now until hubby gets back).
  • Baby is on and off in his crib for naps and night at 3.5 weeks. He doesn't sleep much at night but I keep trying! I have a bed in his room so I've been sleeping in there. Also have a bassinete next to the bed that I use more

Baby Will born 8/18. He's perfect.
  • Our LO is 5 weeks today, and he had his first night in the crib last night. He did great! Only woke up for his normal feedings. I won't lie, though... I shed a few tears for moving from our room to his own.
  • My ds has been in his crib full-time since the 3rd day home from the hospital. He slept in our room in the pack and play the first 3 nights Bc I was so sore and his bedroom is on the other end of the house.
  • DD has been in her crib from day one. Her room is right across the hall from ours, though, and our room genuinely didn't have room for a bassinet or pack n play or anything like that.
  • With our first it was at about 10 weeks. She was sleeping through the night (I know we were blessed!) and I was going back to work at 12 weeks and was trying to find our new routine. It was much harder on me then her. This time as soon as she is STTN I will move her. We are napping in the crib.
  • My LO has been in her crib from day 1 home from the hospital. I'd heard too many horror stories of not being able to transition to the crib I just started her in it from the start
  • I'm planning to start getting LO in the crib for naps to start transitioning at about 8 weeks. He's 5 weeks now and I'll be going back to work after 12 weeks so want to start finding our new routine.
  • DS is sleeping in his crib since day one, I don't think he minds
  • My little one is in his crib in our room at 4 weeks he's outgrown his moses basket lol so we had no choice to move hin
  • My LO has been in his own room since the first week we were home, but he's in the rock n play right now. I've tried a few times to put him in his crib but he wakes right up. I go back to work in 3 weeks so I'm hoping we can make the transition before then.

  • Our nursery is functioning as a guest room right now with our string of vistors. Our vistors stop once he is a month so once he is a month im going to try to start doing naps in the crib so it's not so unfamiliar to him. Then at 2-3 months (once bf-ing is WELL established) move him to the crib at night. Hopefully I can stick with this :(. My little man is really social and sometimes he wakes up at night or day and gets REALLY upset that he can't look at someone so I know the transition is going to be hard.
  • Great suggestions! Thanks ladies!
  • My baby won't sleep on her pack n play in our room. She sleeps in her swing. That is the only thing she will sleep in besides on me. I don't like the fact that she isn't in the same room as me and I don't want to put her in her crib in her own room. I just hate having her so far away. It makes my chest heavy and I can't sleep. I am do worried about sids I don't sleep well and I check on her all the time. I have gotten her to sleep on her pack n play maybe 2 times for the whole night but she wakes up and she likes movement so I have to rock the pack n play back n forth. Idk what to do to make my self feel better.
  • Our baby starting sleeping in the crib immediately. I have a twin bed in the nursery which is where I'll be sleeping for now. He stays in the rock and play during the day for naps.

  • Everyone's different on this, with our first we did naps in the crib & co-slept at night until 11mo (when he started helicoptering in our bed).
We will likely do the same with this little one.

  • This thread is inspiration for me! We've been using the rock n play as a crutch because it's so easy, but I don't want crazy transition issues, not to mention the whole flat head thing, so starting today, we are attempting a nap in the crib. It hasn't been very successful so far (we've lasted about 15 minutes before DS wakes up and realizes he's not in Kansas anymore) but I'd rather deal with this now than in two months when I go back to work! Fingers crossed that he won't find it so terrifying.
  • As soon as his acid reflux allows it -_-
