Pink, Blue or Green? Nursery Ideas!

Also, what color do they say you are if you're having boy/girl twins? Purple is pink and blue mixed together. Is it purple? :))

I know it's early, but I bet most of y'all have a private Pinterest board (word of advice, don't forget to privately pin baby stuff if you're trying to keep a secret!)

Post your nursery ideas!

Team Green: Gender neutral. Colors, theme?

If you're finding out the sex, what are your different ideas, if you have them?

Team Pink: Colors, theme?

Team Blue: Colors, theme?

  • I will totally be team green, but I'm not decorating a nursery. Last time it was a waste of money and this time we will more than likely FTing in a RV

  • I love the idea of a travel theme for either gender. DS has a loosely-themed castle/knights room with gray, turquoise, and red as the major colors. I've pretty much planned my whole house with Pinterest; not only is it practical, it's addictive.
  • I have long been obsessed with whales. (In fact, I got to kayak with minke whales in Newfoundland last year!)

I don't have any pictures or anything, but I'd love to incorporate whales in some way. They are so beautiful and graceful and calming, I think, which would be a great vibe for a nursery!

  • @KristieA I love the planes and vintage travel theme! We did a similar theme for DS's first birthday party and it was super cute.

We did a gender neutral nursery last time, but if we have a girl next I would love to do a girly theme since my world right now is filled with cars, trucks and superheroes.

  • The nursery in our house right now is 2 hiddeous shades of dark, dark, dark, butt-ugly purple...it hurts to look at.

  • The room that will be our nursery is pink and brown. I am not looking forward to reprinting it but maybe I can convince DH to get a painter in this time to do it as we have textured wallpaper and it wouldn't be safe for me to remove it. Hmmmm

  • Not doing up a nursery this time. Last time it was fun, but they outgrow it so quickly and since baby rooms in with us they are barely in there. No changing table either.

However I do want to pick a theme for things but try for stuff that will work past 1 year. I'm really hoping for a girl and will do something with bunnies or butterflies. We already have a set of white furniture (dresser and daybed) so that part will be easy.

  • We will find out as soon as we can, but it won't change our decorating plans. I'm thinking a Nintendo theme with bright primary colors.

  • Team green for us, but baby will not have a nursery of their own. I suspect they will be sleeping in our room for the first little bit of their life anyways. The room that we will have a crib is currently our office so it's going to have to be a shared space. If we had a house, it might be a different scenario, but we'll make do with the space we have. And honestly, a nursery is the furthest thing from my mind. After having a m/c, some things don't seem as important. I just can't wait to hold and snuggle my little (healthy) baby!

  • We're putting the crib in the master bedroom. It's the only bedroom on the downstairs level, so the baby won't wake everyone else up. The master bedroom is also black, so it's great for day sleeping. But this was my daughter's nursery. No crib, just a futon.

  • And here's my son's. He never used it because he ended up having really bad congestion issues. Instead he slept nearly upright in a swing in the master bathroom with a humidifier running on high until he was 7 months old. Glamorous right?

  • I actually have been (for some time) making my home office easily convertible into a nursery. I recently did a closet renovation to take out the bifold doors and make a changing table area with my favorite colors (which I'm considering gender neutral). Turquoise, Tiffany blue, Aqua, grey, and cream. Notice the inherited changing table already in the closet, ha! (Not set up yet obviously, more for decoration right now). Also, we are doing elephants, my husband is an artist (wedding photographer by day, painter by night) so I already have a few canvases set up for him with some ideas that incorporate elephants and those colors.
  • I am thinking beach theme for team pink or blue. Walls will be some kind of beachy blue color and then may do orange/yellows? Accents for boy and pink/coral accents for girl

DS's nursery was a nautical theme, very heavy on the whales :)

  • I've been thinking about this and I'm not sure what to do.

We have 3 bedrooms upstairs.  DS's room is in the middle of the master and what is now a guest bedroom/the land where baby toys go to die.

We will likely move DS into the guest bedroom and leave the nursery for the new baby.  I'm not sure how I want to decorate DS's 'big boy' room.  I'm not sure if I want the nursery to stay the same, that depends on the sex.  I know my husband would like to make sure I reuse most of the stuff in the nursery (I suppose that is the most practical...) but I would like to do something fun for the toddler's room and freshen up the nursery a bit while I'm at it.

This shouldn't be as hard/overwhelming as it seems!

  • Team Pink: Colors, theme?

Pale yellow and grey with a giraffe and elephants theme!

    Team Blue: Colors, theme?

Primary colors, mostly red and blue and superheroes!

In the event we had twins, we'd probably go with the "girl" idea since it's pretty gender neutral, but we could always throw in a few more superheroines and make that one gender neutral as well.
My DH would die over that superhero theme!!

  • Finally! A good use for all my Pinterest plans!
We are probably going to find out what we're having prior (although I used to say I'd like to keep it a surprise!) here's a few ideas I've pinned. I think the giraffe one would be good for team green.

  • @vinerie  - Here are a few! we added the netting with all of the stuffed sea animals after the baby shower :)   but I wanted to include the other pic so I could AW the photo with the nautical flags... I had it made on Etsy, the flags are spelling out the name of our town and the coordinates are our house.  I loved it!

Sidenote: it is so weird to look back and see how the room "before" - it is so much more full now!

@lest12 Thank you!! And I love the octopuses (octopi?). I also think the compass is a good idea. There is some symbolism there, no? Where will you go in life, LO?

  • @vinerie - that is sweet! I wish I had been that thoughtful when I picked it out.  I just didn't want to hang a picture over the crib, LOL!

The octopus on the bookshelf was homemade by my BIL's GF.  I died when I opened it.  It's so awesome.

  • DD's room (nursery) is a pale orange with teal accents, no specific theme . We'll be keeping that room as the nursery and decorate the 3rd bedroom for her big girl room. We'll probably have the baby in our room for at least 3 months or so anyways, so I'm waiting a while longer to start y making decor plans so I can get a better idea of what she'll like.
  • If we have a boy we are doing Monsters they have a really cute Monsters Inc. Set at Babies R Us I am in love with (and Pinterest has TONS of ideas) If we have a girl will most likly be PINK PINK PINK Owls or something cute and Girly :) Cant wait to find out and start the Nursery!
  • Boy: White walls x3 with one light light blue accent wall and whale things.

Girl: Cream walls x3 with one light peach accent wall and maybe seahorse things...? Haven't truly figured that one out yet.

We have a giant--I'm talking LARGE-probably 51/2'x3.5' nautical chart of the Charleston coast that will be hung on the wall regardless of sex.

    (We live on the beach)

So if we have a boy we are going Star Wars themed :)

For a girl: Going with a snow winter themed with Frozen mixed in but not heavy.

  • Our spare room is light blue and white and we'll probably keep it like that, boy or girl. Maybe use a sponge to make some clouds? If we're doing a theme, it would be forest/woodland animals, so we might go for white and green instead of blue.'

    And definitely doing this:

    image

We don't have a lot of options because our spare room is pretty small, and we can't afford to buy a bigger place any time soon (we rent now) because I'm self-employed and my income can't be counted towards the mortgage. So I'll mostly be looking at room-saving ideas. :)
No way! Same due date and same nursery idea!? I'm thinking woodland with red Accents. And some red buffalo plaid throw pillows and sheets!
  • We have a one bedroom apartment and will be staying in it for another year or so. Technically we won't have a seperate nursery but our bedroom is huge. We are going to paint one of the walls in the room green for boy yellow or orange for girl. Thats where we will put the crib. We are thinking dinosaurs for a boy and zoo animals (like elephants and giraffes) for a girl.
  • I don't have pics, but with my son we were Team Green, but I hate the color green! So, MH painted it a beautiful light yellow and we have monkey and giraffe decals on the wall. This little one will be in my son's room so we are keeping it all the same. Boring, yes. Easy, most definitely!

  • Don't know what color we're going to paint yet- but we're doing a nerd nursery. Originally we were going to go with Dr. Seuss but one of my friends got preggers first and that's what she went with. Also we have fallen in love with a number of nerdy ideas.

We are going to find out the sex but still keep the nursery fairly neutral with accents of color. I found a pin that I like but I want it  with tan stars and more spread out. We are redoing the closets and then going to build 2 built-ins on either side of the window and put a reading bench below the window. H was a big reader as a child and wants our LO to have the same love for reading.

  • I want to do a light purple and butterfly theme for a girl and I would NEED this!

For a boy I am thinking an animal theme. Maybe something with elephants?

When I had my 3rd son we were FTing in an RV. It's a lot of fun having the capability to just go anywhere.
