Mothers of boys - tips please

How do you keep your newborn DS's willy under control - any tips for preventing pee fountain incidents? It's driving me crazy. We went through several outfits yesterday and also had to wash a queen size quilt. Not to mention, wiping a scrotum is really quite difficult. I have to say I prefer girl parts when it comes to wiping bums and changing nappies...

Re: Mothers of boys - tips please

  • I have cloth diapers that I put on his pee pee as I'm changing him. For me its actually easier. What I do is clean from back to front. Complete opposite from a girl. So I use the edge of my finger to get in there. Then I clean under his scrotum, sides, then around-his pee pee.

  • I hold the new diaper over his lap (with the same hand I hold his feet up with) while I wipe him. Its a little tricky when he kicks like crazy, but we are not having issue now. Also, when I change him, I always put the diaper back up and wait a second after I unhook it and check it. This way, if the cool air is going to cause him to pee, the current diaper is there.
  • I fortunately don't have too many pee nightmares with my ds, yet. At the doctors office they lay a tissue over his penis. They also make a product called the pee pee teepee. They sell something similar at babies r us.
  • Go for the pp teepee. They work, but probably not worn the money. I tent the clean diaper over his penis and hope for the best, he's only gotten us like twice
  • I layed the new diaper down first and then tje baby. So as soon as you pull the dirty diaper off you can quickly cover. Then uncover and wipe. I also learned quickly never to change him anywhere other the the changing table!
  • I leave a cotton ball or baby wipe on his willy so when he pees it soaks into that. Yesterday I forgot twice and got soaked twice lol its like a fire hose when he gets going haha
Also point him down.  I cant tell you how many times our son has peed straight "up" through the top of his pamper because his willy wasnt pointed down into the diaper.
  • I lay the new diaper under him before I take the old one off. Then I undo the straps and take a peek to see if he's gonna pee. I've learned that my little guy will actually have a little erection when he's gonna pee lol. I dunno if that's for all, but it's like a warning for me. If he's got that situation going on I'll put the old one back on and wait a few to see if he'll finish.
  • Nothing I can really add that these ladies haven't. The cool air will cause him to pee. I have a peepee teepee we got at our shower and never use it. I cover him with a diaper the majority of the time.
  • We keep a roll of toilet paper at changing table and use a couple squares to keep it covered! We found this was cheaper than using a wipe every time.
  • I just use a wipe over it while I'm getting the other areas clean. Then, clean again from front to back. He pees more on himself when we have slips than us! I'm waiting for it to shoot him in the face on accident!
  • For me I actually think it's easier to change my boys over my girls lol. With all my kids I have always had the new diaper ready to slide underneath them quickly to avoid accidents. I also agree with @ChristyM87 about wiping front to back with both boys & girls as they both can get a UTI wiping back to front.
  • I personally think the peepee tepees are a waste of money. I just put a washcloth over their baby bits and as PPs said I always put the new diaper under the old and slide it out. I think that part helps more with girls since their pee goes down (definitely helps with the random squirt poo) and the wash cloth over their penis keeps you from being sprayed.

  • I just look to see if he is ready to pee. If he looks "erect" then you know urine is coming soon. If he is "relaxed" then you are safe. If erect, I let air hit him then close the dirty diaper (usually pees within 30 seconds of air hitting). If relaxed, I can safely let him lay naked without worry. If he is straining to poot or poop then there is risk of a squirt of urine, but that isn't the dreaded fountain.
  • I must say my little girl pees all the time once diaper is off and it's got some force behind it!! lol! I'm constantly changing her changing pad covers and clothes!
