athenolol and breastfeeding

any one using athenolol while breastfeeding? The doctor wants to put me on a low dose to lower my heart rate. im worried about the potential side effects on my LO bc i EBF . Can anyone share their experiences, im not sure ifs it's really worth the risk. any advice would be appreciated!

  • In order to be a good mom, you have to take care of yourself. Your doctor is obviously wanting to prescribe this for a reason.. Presumably tachycardia as you said for your heart rate. This is serious.. You need your heart to work properly! So regardless if it is passed to the baby or not, I strongly urge you to think of yourself first.

  • I would check in Tom Hale's book, which goes in depth about what meds are safe while BFing.

    My lactation consultant had a copy and doulas often do too so you might not have to buy it...
