Barnyard Theme?

So frustrated ... I really want to do a barnyard animal theme for my nursery, but there is NOTHING out there with farm animals!  It's all jungle animals, with the occasional woodland animal.  Since when are cows and chickens not baby themed?  The only thing I've been able to find is the Trend Lab Baby Barnyard set, and I'm not crazy about it. :(  Anyone have any hints for where to look to find more?

Re: Barnyard Theme?

  • First, you don't have to have a bedding set, to have a theme. I think that bedding sets are pretty worthless....you can't use the bumper, the comforters are pretty stiff, and all of the accessories REALLY go nuts on the theme. So that brings it down to sheets, and a cribs skirt from the bedding set (IF those even come with it, as sometimes they don't).

Second, Jump on Pinterest and search Barnyard Theme Nursery. There are TONS of cute ideas that you can do (or buy). Also check out Etsy. It really doesn't take much for people to see what the nursery theme is.....and nurseries can be so much cuter without needing a match-matchy bedding set.

  • I would look at amazon or overstock.com if u cant find what ur looking for in stores.
  • I agree about not having a bedding set. Why don't you pick a color scheme, something barnyard-esque (I'm thinking red and white like a barn, and.... Brown? Hmm...), and go with that first of all. Then make sure you get like, cows and chickens for toys. You could also have someone paint a mural on the nursery wall of a barnyard scene.
  • Ps not like, live cows and chickens. That would be a huge mistake. Toys designed after cows and chickens. Derp.
  • ^---- BWAHAHAHA!

I just saw the other day, while I was cruising Pinterest, someone had used their kids name....gotten the big letters from the craft store, and painted them white with black spots like a cow. So cute!

  • We did this theme with my oldest. We found her set on Kijiji.

  • I had a farm theme for my first. We did green pokadot sheets from pottery barn kids, I found a farm window valance that matched an older nursery set on clearance at Burlington Coat Factory and we ordered farm and tractor prints from etsy. I put a green ribbon around the lamp shade that coordinated worth the sheets. I also found paper mache sheep at Michael's to put in between books on the shelves. It was really cute but not over the top on the theme.
  • I don't know if you are still looking, but a friend of mine did this theme and found a ton of cute farm and barn-themed decor on Etsy.
