I'm just curious what everyone's plans are. We will most likely be done after this next child (we already have a 20 month-old DD.)

Re: How many kiddos do you plan on having?

  • So we started out wanting 4 before we got married. At 9 months pregnant, in the horrible dead heat of Texas, I swore I was 1 and done. Now 4 years later we are back up at 3, hah!

  • I have no idea. We don't have any yet and I'm 33, so who knows what'll happen! If we can't get PG, I'd like to wait a few years, adopt two or three siblings, and then be done.
  • I had 2 sisters and 1 brother and I loved it, so that's for me the reason why I want 4 kids. My bf also wants 4 kids now, but we don't know how optimistic we'll be in the future  ;)

  • I voted one, but actually undecided between 1 and 2. I used to think 2 would be tough financially, but just had a positive financial change that makes me more optimistic :-)
  • I'm kind of like PP in that I'm leaning 2, but still undecided between 1 and 2.

I grew up with one brother and had a great experience. My husband comes from a big family (5 siblings) but he wants to have a smaller family so that he can focus more on his kids than his parents were able to while he was growing up. I could see us with 1 and really loving it, but I also know how much I loved growing up with a sibling.

I can't see us having more than 2 between living in a new city and the cost of living, but I guess you don't really know until you start:-).

We both want two. DH is set on this and I am set on this. We both don't see any advantages to having more than that so we plan on snipping and tying after our second. The only way we'd have more is if the second pregnancy was multiples... which I really hope not. LOL. Idk if I could handle more than two.

  • Who voted for 5? I want to know! So much love for those kids. I like it!
  • 1 or 2...depending on when we start/how long it takes/barring any issues...although secretly i think having twins would be awesome but my luck it would be quadruplets. I like keeping the kid to parent ratio more to the parents favor lol
  • I voted 3....but I'm somewhat undecided between 2-3.  This will all depend on how having the first one goes.

  • I voted 3, but DH and I are open to a possible fourth. We will be trying for #3 and will wait and see how we do with 3 before ruling out another one.
  • I used to want two, for some random reason. Now, we are both leaning toward one child for a variety of reasons. We will have our first and then go from there though.
  • I voted 3.  Hubby and I have greed that three would be a good number for us, but I wouldn't mind having more. I am one of four, so I'm used to having a big family. :D

  • I would totally go all out. But DH really really didn't want to. He wanted 2. And I wanted 6+ ... So every baby after the first two is a big compromise and blessing for us. :) I chose 4, because that's what we are working on. I just turned 28 and don't think we'll be having any after I hit 30... so it's likely where we stop.
  • I think 2 is a good number.
Totally agree with @JenandJosh1310 about keeping the kid to parent ratio somewhat in the parents favour.  :D
  • I'm stuck on 2, DH wants 3. But I told him I'm not having any after 35 (I'm 28 now), and we're about to start TTC 1 right now, so I guess it'll work out however it should in the next several years.

  • I swear 3 is the number these days! I feel like every family I know and see out and about has 3 lol. I used to want 4 when I was young but that was before I knew anything about money :))  Now I would be happy with two so that we could still financially take fun trips and do any extra activities we might want to! Also I don't want to be outnumbered  :-S
  • I voted four because that's what we decided. I'm from a family of twelve so I wanted 6 ish but I'm ok with 4.

  • We have talked about maybe two, but we are okay with one and done.

I'm over 30, and he is 38, so it depends on my pregnancy / birth experience, and how long ttc takes. If it happens right away, and is a wonderful experience, (so, you know, a perfect world) we *might* have two.

  • Our goal is minimum of 2, as many as 4 depending on how things go. I want at least 3 years between babies and want to be done around 35 (we're starting ttc now and I'm 25) which puts us at 3 unless we end up with multiples of extend the timeline.

My hubby keeps saying once you've got 3, you might as well go for 4 since everything seems designed for families of 4 or 6, not families of 5, so we'll see what actually transpires over the next decade or so.
  • We have 2 and I'm 37 but I feel like I want one more. DH is wavering on #3 but time is ticking.

  • I secretly have always wanted four kids... but my husband only wants two, so I tell him I want three! I would be happy with at least three.  I grew up with only one other sibling, and I was always jealous of my friends with bigger families. I always knew I wanted more than two kiddos.  But we'll see how it goes... We're both 28 with no kids yet, so it depends on how easily I get pregnant, and what our financial situation looks like (the real reason my husband only wants two... he thinks three is way too expensive!).

    It's a boy!

  • I always said I wanted 4 to 5 kids but DH said he did not want that many. We know we want 2, and most likely 3. Considering we don't even have one yet, we'll just see as we go along.

    I voted 3.

Right now I'm thinking One & Done.   DH is 38 and I'm almost 32.   I'm not so worried about my age, but DH is getting older.  As it is right now, if we had a child, DH would be 56 when they graduate from high school.   I couldn't imagine having more kids and being in our 60's when they're just graduating high school.

I can't say for sure we won't change our mind and have more than one, but right now we would feel blessed with just one child.

^^^^ This. Although I am a little sad to think my next pregnancy will be my last.

ETA no snipping and tying for me though, DH will most likely get a vasectomy.

  • We aren't too sure.  Start with one and go from there, maybe 2.

  • I'd love to go all out but my husband won't have it. I'm hoping for three, don't know if I can convince him.
