Fire Hydrant Right Breast

Does anyone else have a breast that produces more milk than the other? I can pump 4 ounces out of my right breast in less than ten minutes. I have to be careful when nursing the baby through out the day because if I'm even a little engorged she'll cough and spit up immediately. I've gotten into the habit of pumping for 10-15 minutes before bed and only letting her nurse for 2-3 minutes on my right side in the morning to bring down my engorgement and then pumping once she's done nursing on the other side.

Does any one else have a power boob? I don't think there is anything I can do to remedy it, just wondering if it's normal.

  • Yes, leftie. LO doesn't seem to mind it though.

  • I did but for a while I always started on the other side so that boob would be completely empty. Then offer the other side. I wouldn't pump too much out of it. Just enough to relieve your engorgement or you will keep producing more out of that side.

  • My right produces wayyy more than my left as well. It gets engorged every night, and my left never has. I'm working on building up the left, because I'm worried my whole supply is shifting to the right, haha. Would like it to be more even!

  • My right produces so much more. I can't pump though because then I produce more. I squeeze some out into the sink and it seems to help control it. My daughter spits up very bad because it comes out so fast. Try lying down on your back and putting baby on top of you and feeding them that way. I have to feed my girl from my strong side that way to control the let down!
  • My left is always more full and I can pump more out of it
  • Power pumping once a week has really helped to even out my two sides
  • Power pumping?? I'm not sure what that means.

It's pumping to mimic cluster feeding.   You pump for 10 minutes/take 10 minute break/pump again for 10 and repeat for an hour.

  • I don't know if mine is actually uneven, but it seems like the right side is always fuller since she prefers the left and always eats longer on that side. I am also just bad about giving her the left first when she is upset because she takes it faster.

So, do you pump each side for 5 minutes each or one side then ten min break then other side?
