February 2016 Moms

Need lots of sleep!

Hi. Im 17weeks pregnant with my first one.
Its my very first experience.

I read a lot about pregnancy. And i found out that 4 and 5mos pregnant, most moms find themselves to be energetic.

Well not with me... i find my self (lately) in need of lots of hours of sleep.
Normally i could only sleep 6 7 hrs at night and id feel refreshed in the morning ready to start the day.
Now i sleep 9 hrs and its still not enough. Is this normal?? Has anyone experienced the same thing?
I also work and manage my own small company. I sometimes feel is that why i always feel tired?
I want to be energetic and strong! I dont feel that nowadays...

What about you?

Re: Need lots of sleep!

  • @vellyyu I know how you feel. I am also 17 weeks pregnant but with my 2nd and I feel drained. I keep waiting for this burst of energy but I feel awful

  • I felt drained with my entire pregnancy with DD. This time, I have some days that I feel absolutely drained and other days where I feel normal, but not energetic. I just tell myself if that is the worst symptom I have, I am pretty lucky.
  • It's normal.  I'm sleeping about 9 hours and napping most days (whenever my kids allow).

  • I am 18w and am so tired its crazy. I'd say it's normal - the energy boost is an average thing but everyone experiences pregnancy differently.

Also just to keep in mind - If you get so tired you legitimately can't do much mention it to your doctor, it can be an indicator for anemia, but from the sounds of it you do not need to worry about that.

Yes! I am 18 weeks and every night I sleep 7-9 hours but wake up exhausted. I live for Saturday mornings when I can sleep on to 10am or so.
  • Yes, it is normal - more common in the first trimester I believe but everyone is different. I used to go to sleep around 7 pm and sleep until 6 with my first pregnancy, now I sleep about 8.5 hrs. every night and if I get any less am pretty sluggish in the morning.

  • I'm almost 19 weeks now and I'm getting probably 9 hours of sleep at night and fitting in a little cat nap if I feel like I need it. I don't think you should necessarily worry about it. Just listen to your body and do what it needs. If you need to wake up in the middle of the night, or have a big nap in the afternoon, just don't stress it. You're growing a human, I think you should allow yourself to feel tired of you are!

  • Normal, I usually sleep 9-10 hours and take a 1-2 hour nap during the day, when the kids allow it. That's the only way I can make it through the day. I also thought I would be feeling better by now, but I'm not.

  • Right there with you! I'm almost 18 weeks and if I don't get enough sleep, I get nauseous. I remember having so much more energy during the second trimester with my DS but not this time around.

  • Thank you all for sharing your experience with me. Now i can see that im normal and im not alone! :)
  • Just wanted to add that if you have any preexisting thyroid issues, make sure you are getting them checked. I gave been constantly extremely exhausted and my levels were way off. I had my meds adjusted and it was better for a bit but now I'm back to exhausted. I'm going in again next week.
  • I'm crazy exhausted all the time these days, 17w5d. I am only sleeping like 7 hours a night and less if I have a bad night and wake up at all. Unlike a lot of PPs, I have tons of energy in the am but am dragging come afternoon. Today I took a nap in my car during lunch!

  • It's normal I go to bed around 9 and get up around 6:30 every day. Way more sleep than I usually had pre pregnancy. I actually take my unisom around 8 so I fall asleep-

Hopefully you get back to having energy soon.
  • I'm the same. Finding full time work really tough, spend all afternoon trying not to fall asleep at my desk. And it doesn't seem to matter how much sleep I get in the evening. Hanging out for the rumoured 2nd trimester energy boost...
