Bridesmaid Dress!?

Hello all, I am going to be a bridesmaid in a wedding at the end of October....I'll be in the middle of my 12th week of pregnancy.  The website I'm ordering from allows you to either order a generic size, or you can provide your measurements for a custom size; however, you can return the generic sizes but not the custom size. I ordered a generic dress one size up from my normal size (which is actually only a 1/2 size up in dress measurements) and I just received it.  It just barely fits my stomach.  I haven't gained any weight, but I have been really bloated.  So, needless to say I will need to return the dress.  Problem is, how big should I order? Any advice?

Re: Bridesmaid Dress!?

  • I had the same problem. My sister gets married Oct 9th. I'll only be 9 weeks But the first dress I ordered didn't fit around my boobs. (i seriously had lopsided uniboob) I just got the next size up. As long as my boobs don't get bigger I think I'm okay. I went from a 12 to 14 but it's still a little big in the tummy and it's flowy. Hope that helps. Good luck!

  • So last pregnancy my bloat was just about gone by 12 weeks, and I didn't really have a bump that affected my clothes until about 16 weeks. Obviously I don't know if that will be the case for you, but you may not need to size up as much as it seems now. Maybe order 2 sizes up (which seems to be 1.5 sizes up in measurement) to be safe, and get it tailored if you need to?
  • I am wearing a BM dress next week and I am so scared it's not going to fit! We are renting them so I have gone up a size in hopes that it will cover my boobs and bloat!

  • To bounce of this post... I am in a wedding at 37 weeks (early-mid-April)!!!!! Yikes!!! We are allowed to wear any dress in any length in a metallic color. I am getting a maternity dress, but does anyone have tips about when I should order so that I get the dress on time but also order the right size? I'm thinking I'll just have to order it the month and a half before and get it quick-tailored.

  • I think the size you order depends on the style of the dress and your body type. Ex: empire waist will be more forgiving than others, and a short-torso body type tends to show sooner. Ex: I had a definite, small baby bump by 12-13 weeks last pregnancy at 5'2" after having a pretty flat stomach pre-baby. Is it possible to order larger and adjust it shortly before the wedding if you need to?
