Life one-handed...

Any ideas on quick meal or snack ideas that can be put together & consumed one handed by an exhausted momma :) ? What foods are you surviving on??

I am EBF and when my DH is at work I feel like I'm not eating as well as I should mostly because I am not hands free at the right times and when DD does sleep I try to rest as well. Mommies need 4 arms ;)

Re: Life one-handed...

  • I've been eating a lot of sandwiches
  • Loading the player...
  • I've had a grilled cheese every day for lunch this week. It's the best I can do while trying to EBF.
  • Nature valley granola bars.
  • When DS is napping, I chop some bell peppers and pieces of fruit and cheese so that at lunch time I can just throw them on a plate with some crackers. Quick, easy, healthy and definitely a one handed meal. Also, for breakfast I prep overnight oats the night before so I can grab my bowl in the morning and eat. I'm no good on an empty stomach so planning ahead is key for me.
  • I somehow figured out how to spread cream cheese on a bagel with one hand, I was pretty impressed with myself, not gonna lie. Had to even take a picture to "brag" to DH. *small victories!*

Otherwise, sandwiches., fruit, yogurt with granola. DH cooks dinner sometimes. Delivery. Maybe I'll get a better hang of it? I also have a ring sling I want to try out, that will help immensely!

I'm living on sandwiches and trail mix.

Edited to add: I love my video monitor especially when making my sandwich. It helps me decide if I have time to make a real sandwich. "oh she's starting to move. Looks like this sandwich will just be turkey and bread" *gulps it down in 7 seconds flat*
  • If it weren't for my stash of homemade granola bars in the freezer I definitely wouldn't eat some days... I make a batch, wrap and freeze individually so I can just grab one when I need something. Other than that leftovers are my friend! Also making sure there's pre-prepped fruit in the fridge when I can...
  • I eat whatever is around. Sometimes its stake crackers sometimes it's a sandwich. Just depends on what's going on and such.
  • My mom made me a ton of raisin brand muffins that we froze. Those are easy in the morning. Lunch is usually leftovers from dinner, DH puts them into lunch size ready to microwave glass containers. So pretty easy. If no lunch leftovers.... well I just eat a cheese stick.
  • Sandwiches, muffins, and fruit. -.- that's my current diet!
  • I feel like I eat way to many cheese sticks and carnation instant breakfasts. Luckily we have frozen meals for dinner ( DH cooks) but during the day I fail. Today had left over mashed potatoes for lunch, and gold fish... :-O
  • Oh snacks how I miss you... I manage to get a couple of lactation cookies down as snacks each day while hiding in a corner in the other room so my 2 year old won't see me and ask for one. Other than that I don't get many snacks unless my 2 year old decides to feed me one of hers (slobbery apple slice anyone?) I try to make sure I get solid meals in, and that is about it.
  • My mom makes breakfast for the week for us and brings it on Sundays so its egg muffins and oatmeal cups, lunch is prepped meals (chicken, veggies, rice), snacks are apples and nutella or lactation bars my mom made (dont care if they work, they are yummy), then DH does dinner every night and I usually eat with her laying on the boppy hooked to my boob at the table.
  • We had a good day yesterday. Husband took me to the shoe store to get some nice, black boots for fall and to get lunch. We went to Jimmy Johns and baby started fussing as soon as we sat down to eat so I nursed him at the table. Well, apparently I'm still getting used to the one hand approach.. had taken maybe one bite of my sandwich and clumsy one-hand dropped it, outside, mayo-meat-veggie side down so there was no saving it. I was so annoyed! Made it up with a real, French macaron after haha
  • What is this food you are talking about?! Lol I'm living on wraps and maybe some fruit!
  • Leftovers from the night before. Snacks ate usually yogurt or a protein shake

  • @SashaDenn25 can I come love with you?! I'll make myself useful (somehow) in exchange for food! ;;)

We can trade off MOTN feedings of LOs! :) lol

I should probably edit that post to say LIVE instead of love, but I'd love the food so I'm leaving it. Haha. I'll take nights if you've got days!
  • This post makes me feel much better. As a young (19 years old) ftm, I often feel like a hot mess compared to some of the older moms on the board who seem to have it all figured out. But I'm glad to see I'm not the only one living on granola bars and pbj sandwiches. Who has time or energy to cook? Not I.
