Help! Car seat for my mustang!?!

Hey there,

My boyfriend and I are expecting our first child together and we both drive the exact same car- 2010 Ford Mustangs (Totally by coincidence). The car does have the car seat latch things in the back but the back seat is very small. Getting a new car isn't really a option for either of us as we're both is grad school living off of student loans and stipends. So does anyone have any experience with a similar situation or any suggestions on car seats to look for. I was hoping to get one of the travel systems where the seat hooks into the stroller but idk! Help please!!

Re: Help! Car seat for my mustang!?!

  • The travel systems where the seat hooks into the stroller are really good for smaller back seats, actually. The backseat in my car isn't as small as yours, but I do drive a coupe. Now that DD has outgrown the snap-in car seat, I miss it badly! It used to be that I could grab the release from the front seat and just swing the whole seat out no problem. Now I practically have to climb in the back seat with her to undo all the bells and whistles keeping her belted into her "big girl" car seat. The "grow-with-me" car seats also tend to take up more room and sit taller than the infant latch-ins so they'd be less practical for your particular back seat. Unfortunately, I think one of you will probably have to bite the bullet in the next couple of years when your LO outgrows the infant seat, but until then I think you've got the right plan.

  • We have a smaller car and have chosen the Cybex Aton for our carseat because it is a lot shorter front to back than most other brands (and it's also lighter!). I'm not sure if it's small enough for your backseat, but the odds are better at least!
  • I know babies r us let's try out the car seat in the parking lot to see if it fits. Maybe try that or another store that allows it?
  • One of my friends drives a very tiny car and the Graco snug ride travel system fits perfectly in her back seat. It's worth a look.

I have a grace travel system and it fit perfectly in my giant truck and my fiances tiny car :3 and it's nice because we didn't have to get two car seats or worry about transferring them since it's a detachable-from-base kind we just had to get an extra base and the carrier pops right in and out!

  • Google car seat lady website... good resource.
