Childcare

I was wondering what everyone is doing for child care when they go back to work if they aren't lucky enough to have family helping? And what people are paying? I'm looking into a part time nanny (25 hrs per week) and it's going to cost $1600 per month! Would love to hear what other people are doing.

Re: Childcare

  • I work at a childcare center so LO will be coming with me. I teach early preschool (2s a and 3s) and her infant class will be right next to my class. My center doesn't do discounts for employees until the child is two, so I will be paying the full rate, which was 175/week when I registered her. I know it's gone up into the 200s since. I also looked into a center close to our house that was charging $245/week.

  • I'm very curious as well. The thought of putting my 3 month old in daycare absolutely DESTROYS me but we have no friends or family around to help so I think I need to go back to work very soon :(
  • We are going to the Goddard School and its $1100 month.
  • I'm sending my daughter to an in home daycare right down the road from my school. I'll be paying $135 a week for 3 days. I'm lucky enough that my mother in law can watch her 2 days a week. Daycare is so expensive!!!
  • Thankfully my mom will be keeping her, but I did look into a few daycares. The one my step daughter goes to after school would be 249 a week, and the daycare at my job charges 189 a week. They also do not do part time which is dumb (my mom cleans every other Tuesday so I need someone for that time).
  • My son will be going to Goddard infant care which is $450 a month where I live. It's a 2:6 ratio...it's also 3 minutes from my work and they have an "open door" policy for parents- especially BF moms. It's very secure with cameras and a buzzer system and I received great recommendations about them. (Still a nervous FTM though!!)
  • Primrose near our home is $1300 a month
  • I'm taking a job that is exclusively Saturday and Sunday night shift only (I'm a nurse). DH works days during the week and is off on the weekends, so DD will be with DH while I'm at work. No childcare costs, yay!

I am a nurse too and I really wish my employer offered a weekend only option

For now I will be working 3 days a week and on my weekdays we found a state certified in home day care to watch LO for $50/day. I am fortunate that we finally found a place that will work with my unpredictable schedule

I am keeping my part time job for now, but my thought is to only pick up hours on nights and weekends
  • 24-28 hour a week in my home nanny for 2 boys, 235 a week. Super fortunate and blessed to have her...she's been watching my oldest son since he was around 5 months old and she is just wonderful. She brings her 2 year old to our house.
  • My dh got a second job so I'll be staying home with our 3 kids. My dd has 4k in the afternoons and my mom didn't want to have to pick her up from school with the 2 boys 3 days a week. Plus she can't fit 3 car seats in her vehicle. But since dh got this job (which he really loves because it has no set hours) we can afford for me to stay home.
