Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Restless sleep

So recently my LO has started sleeping through the night (she's 7 weeks!) She will go to bed about 9pm and not wake up until about 7am. Sometimes she will get up about 4 or 5am to feed but not the past few days. So aside from it initially freaking me out bc it was all of a sudden, I guess she is doing ok. Anyhow sometimes she seems so restless. I will wake up to her grunting or moving like she is waking up, but she will suck on her hand and go back to sleep. She does this a lot especially in the morning from about 4am until she actually wakes up, off and on about an hour or so in between. Do any of your babies do this? Do you wake them to eat? I plan on asking my pediatrician next week but in the meantime wanted to see if anyone else is noticing the same thing. Side note she doesn't sleep as much during the day either, about an hour (if I'm lucky) each nap.

Re: Restless sleep

  • Hey!!

My little girl does the exact same thing. There is a ton of grunting and groaning before she "wakes" for her feed around 3a.m./4a.m.. She will suck on her hand sometimes or stir and stretch and grunt and then go back to sleep.

I do wake her for her feed if she isn't up yet, but that's a personal decision. My doc thinks I'm nuts!!

My little one doesn't really sleep during the day. She'll nap on me for 20 mins or so following a feed but I won't let her go longer. She's refusing to sleep in her cot or anywhere but on me during the day. It's a massive hassle. Love the cuddles but yeah...

  • If your LO is gaining weight and growing fine then you can let her sleep as long as she wants at night.

Sounds to me like she found a way to soothe herself back to sleep which is a good thing. I had to move both my kids to their own room at about 6 weeks old because they were loud sleepers too. Pretty sure it's totally normal.

Try not to overthink things like this. If there's a problem your LO will let you know ;)

  • Ah good to hear..lol I am happy she's sleeping...now if I could stop waking up at her normal times..
