Bi racial, Multiracial, or Mixed race baby?

Hi is anyone else having a mixed baby and just wondering what s/he will look like, whom they'll favor most? I'm biracial already, and my husband is Caucasian. I have no idea whom my baby will take more of, or a combination of the two, or three racial backgrounds that s/he will have. I'm also wondering what culture I will raise my baby primarily with or even what box I'll check for them. I'm still just excited to know the sex, I haven't even put much thought into the racial complexities of culture and a multiracial little person. I tried looking for books and articles about raising a well rounded mixed race child but most of them I didn't find helpful. Is anyone having any of the same thoughts?

  • I'm bi racial as well with my husband being Caucasian. I did a DNA test last spring to determine my heritage; I was only 44% African meaning my baby will be 22% African. I've grown up in a predominately white community, both parents being white (my dad adopted me) so I guess for us we only know just one culture.

  • I am European and my husband is from South America. We have a son and he is a heart breaker. No joke. I can't really tell who he looks more like, he kinda just had his own look going on.

  • DH and I already have a mixed baby. She's African American / Caucasian (Dad) and Native American (Me). She's adorable and so cute. My husband grew up Baptist and I grew up Methodist with a Native American culture living in a small community that embraces our traditional language and culture. I want my kids to grow up well rounded, culturally aware, and diverse as their backgrounds.

  • @chicka81485 my baby will also be around a quarter Black much like yours.
  • @rebelone a good friend of mine just had a mixed baby with your same mix. B/W father, and she is Native. Their baby is adorable, she looks more like her beautiful mother (my friend). As for my little peanut, s/he will be the same mixture as both your babies but just in different quantities lol. I'm half Native American and African American, and my husband is Caucasian. I want to raise my baby with my primary culture which is Native but I don't want s/he to forget the other ancestors that made them possible. Traditionally s/he will be Native because we believe the child is what the mother is first, and I am what my mother is and I belong to her clan. As I said before though, I want my child to still acknowledge the other parts that make them whole. I'm just trying to figure out how to keep them Native culturally while intuned with their Irish/German side father's side and their African-American grandfather. I guess I'll figure it out as it comes. ;)

Ours will be a Eurasian baby. Very excited to see what features he/she has, esp. after seeing my half Asian-half Caucasian neice!
We plan to raise her/him bilingual, absorbing the full stretch of both backgrounds in terms of food, customs and traditions. Most definitely giving her/him both Asian and Western names
  • Like @AmadorRose I'm a European mutt with some Native American (Cherokee) in me.  And my husband's family is Indian.  SWIRLY BABY! :)  Can't wait to see how this kid turns out.  *Chants Norah Jones!  Norah Jones! Norah Jones!*
  • I'm Caucasian and my husband is Hispanic. We keep saying we want baby to have mommy's blue eyes and daddy's complection and full lips! We'll see God's little creation in April!
  • I'm irish and my Hubbs is Dominican we have 2 girls and I'm excitited to be starting the journey with #3. Out first daughter is tiny in stature with beautiful blond hair with a curl at the bottom and blue eyes but looks like him our second daughter is tall and has brown eyes with straight dark brown hair and darker skin but looks just like me feature wise. He is first generation and we plan on raising them respecting both cultures they will be learning Spanish and will learn how to dance in both cultures with the Spanish dances and learning how to irish step dance.
  • I'm caucasian and my husband is from India. Racially ambiguous is my guess as to what our child will look like. Who knows until they're here! :)
  • I'm Brazilian with ancestry in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Lebanon, England and aboriginal Brazilian. Hubby is Canadian of English descent. So this will be a multiracial baby. :) I cannot wait to see the little face!
  • My hubs wants our little peanut to have light eyes like him (his are blue) and darker hair and features like me. He likes that combination of light and dark. I'm assuming our little one will more likely have brown hair, brown eyes, tan skin and be as cute as can be. Just my assumption based and genetic possibilities.
  • Hubby is Mexican/Irish. He definitely took after his mom with green eyes and freckles. I'm a European mutt. I think our child will consider the self Caucasian because I'm almost positive that baby will be very fair skinned. However we will teach lots of Mexican culture.

  • @sdashergreen This is such a great discussion!
I am Italian/German/Irish and my father is Black... I look identical to my mother except the dark skin tone :D my boyfriend is Italian/Lebanese. My mother is predominately Italian, therefore, I was raised in an Italian upbringing. My father has never been in the picture. My boyfriend had the best of both the Lebanese culture and the Italian culture which I am hoping to incorporate into our child's life! As far as what baby is going to look like... I HAVE NO IDEA.... it's driving the both of us crazy :-/ I have a good friend who is polish and her hubby is black/white. Their children are absolutely gorgeous! Blonde hair, very fair skin tone and poker straight hair.
I guess it all depends on genetics and who's genes are more dominate!
  • Such a good topic!!! I'm mixed (Russian and Central Asian) and hubby is Black/Native American/Jewish so you can imagine how curious we are about what our baby will look like!!! We plan to raise our baby with love and respect to all people. Having a multi cultural experience is amazing and I think all the babies who are being talked about in this thread are VERY lucky to have such amazing backgrounds ❤️

Thank you, @bakibayeva that was a beautiful quote.

  • @cmar1006 OMG I want to poke those cheeks! She is beautiful indeed! Gonna be a heartbreaker for sure ;)
  • @kimey1 I poke them, squeeze them and kiss them every moment I can! She already is a heartbreaker. And she has the personality to go along with it. She's a trip.

  • ZOMG @cmar1006 you're so lucky!
  • I am mixed a bit but I go by African American. My mom had her DNA typing done and found out she's about 60% African and 35% European. With that in mind, my husband is 50% Armenian, 25% italian, and 25% Ukrainian. Our baby is just going to represent the UN lol. I'm already dreading heritage projects but I'm so looking forward to it all. There is so much to teach our little ones :)
  • @angeldi24

Totally UN babies :) Im gonna steal your UN baby quote!
  • My daughter is B/W and she is very dark skinned like dad with hair like mine. Curious to see what this one looks like!
