ITCHY BELLY EVEN AFTER LOTION, anyone relate??

I have been having an itchy belly off and on. Told my doctor and they advised me if it continues where I am constantly itchy or see rashes to come in. No rashes but was still somewhat itchy, they ran some blood work tests and nothing came up. Thought it was gone, but as of late it has begun to itch a lot even after applying lotion. Anyone else experience this and if so what were the end causes??? I am almost 39 weeks, calling the doctor in a couple of hours....

  • I had/have this!!! What I found was helpful was trying not to wear the same shirts I wear all the time. I have a pile of shirts that are just about the only ones that fit. I was sooooo itchy the other night so I put on a shirt I haven't worn in a long time and that seemed to help. I don't know if it's because that pile of shirts get washed all the time or what. But it helped me!! Good luck!

  • I was insatiably itchy on my hands, feet and belly and after bloodwork to test my bile salt levels was diagnosed with cholestasis. Now will most likely be induced at 37.5 weeks. Maybe check with your doctor if it could be that? I'm talking super itchy - like drive you mental, scratch your skin off and still keep going itchy
  • My belly has been itchy too. I'm just over 39w but the itching started days ago. This has turned into some bright red and bumpy scary looking stretch marks that now also burn, especially when I put lotion on them. I'm going to call the doc today when they open, just didn't feel like it was a true emergency last night.
  • I had this too! It was horrible the only thing that helped was cortisone cream from the Dr. After birth it completely went away.
  • I just got this and my baby is 10 days old. Belly and top of feet are insanely itchy! I've been using hydrocortisone cream which helps, but it doesn't show any signs of letting up yet. So irritating!

    Thanks everyone for the advice!!

Yes, I will def ask him about this, I have to re look at the blood work they did a couple of weeks ago and see if this is one of the things they tested me for. It's really hard to know when it's too itchy verses normal itchy lol.
But all night it has been def itchy and is currently but I am able to control scratching.
  • @Livvyloo87 why did they feel the need to induce??? Was it directly related to that diagnosis???

This is what I'm dealing with. I'm only 38 weeks and 6 days though. I just got blood work done today just to make sure it's nothing serious. I think it's an allergic reaction to the Palmers Cocoa Lotion I was using for my stretch marks. But it's terrible my belly looks so red and sore and it's sore to touch too. I have heard belly rashes are common during the end of pregnancy cause everything is stretched to the max and skin becomes more sensitive.

Hope we figure out what it is!
  • I feel like I have no skin left I'm so stretched out. Everything is sensitive to the touch, even putting lotion on to sooth the itch and burn is uncomfortable. Just running out of room!
  • I have this too! Asked my dr yesterday and she said it was hormone related. She said if it's worse at night taking a Benadryl is ok. I did and it was great, still woke up 3 times to pee but at least I could fall back asleep!! Also aveeno oatmeal baths help

I actually just bought the palmers stretch mark cream this past weekend and have been using it a lot! I wonder if that's it as well!
  • Yes, there is a higher rate of still births with women who have cholestasis compared to the general pop and so the recommended approach is usually to get the baby out while you know everything is still good. It's pretty rare condition though - less than 1% of pregnancies are affected by it
  • Update: Spoke with doctor and since there is no rash, not itchy other than on my belly and blood work was negative he is prescribing me an ointment. Let's see if it works because this itchy belly is no fun!
  • I get itchy all over. It's happened ever since my first pregnancy. The only thing that helps me to it stay cool. If I get hot or sweat at all, I itch!! Also taking warm/hot showers makes it 1000x worse for me. A nice cool shower helps sooooo much!!
  • I called my doctor's office and his assistant said it was "normal". She told me to try palmers, I did and nothing. I have a rash which is not normal in my book and it's spreading :( I went to Dr Google and I think I may have PUPPP, which is only cured by having the baby.
I read putting your lotion in the fridge helps so I'm going to try that. Also will stop by target and get something for sensitive skin.
This sucks royally. Hope we all have our babies soon so we don't have to live with this anymore!
