I'm trying to decide whether I should stay with my current OB/gyn or switch practices. I love my nurse practitioner, but have never met the OB, and she's the only one at my current practice. I've also heard mixed reviews on her. There's another practice in town with several women OB that I'd like to check out. Both can get me in for a "first visit" (I've already had blood drawn) on the same day. Do I go to both? What if I cancel the new practice appt but don't like my current OB? Also, anyone have experience with a solo practice? I'm a little worried that she might not be available when I go into labor.
Also, any suggestions on what I should ask about? With my current practice, they've already sent me for 2 ultrasounds when I had spotting, so the nurse's response has been good. Still haven't talked to the OB. Would love your thoughts.
Re: Two appointments in one day?
-They deliver at my preferred hospital
-All the docs participate with my insurance
-They are a large group practice, and I rotate doctors at each appt, and always have at least 1 doc on call at the hospital so it's highly likely I will deliver with a doctor I've seen before, not some rando working at the hospital.
-they have excellent response to questions via phone message or an online portal
-tons of reputable online resources on their website
-they are usually able to get me in on the same day if I have an urgent concern
-they have multiple u/s machines and techs working in practice, and are able to do most routine testing and imaging in house
-they have an in house lab for blood/urine tests, which is convenient.
-they have a high risk MFM on staff, so I don't have to shuffle to multiple practices to be monitored (I'm high risk due to a pre-ex condition)
Other things that might be important are payment policies, flexible appointment times, rate of c-s of the practice, VBAC friendly
