And just feel the need to restate, while telling the sex from an ultrasound is never 100%, your doctor and ultrasound technician are trained professionals. Trust them.
Sounds like you really want to find out the sex. I can relate. Good news is, sounds like the anatomy scan came back positive? That's amazing. It's ok to be confused and excited and not know what's happening. I wish this was a safe place where you could ask questions without being shamed or condescended to. It is not. If you really want to find out, you could ask your doctor for another ultrasound maybe? See if your insurance will cover another one. Good luck!
I don't really think there is ever a need to be so blunt with someone just asking for some reassurance or just asking a question. She was just asking? Maybe she was asking to see if anyone had a similar scan picture with poor visibility of what the picture actually was? Yes it's a confusing picture, but I don't think it warrants such a blunt response from people. There are lots of pictures of other people's ultrasound pictures where the sex is confirmed too? I don't see how this woman in particular is being inappropirate by posting this and just asking about it. Wishing you the best of luck no matter what the sex is, and hopefully if you have another scan or see your dr again soon you can either see the baby again for a clearer shot or your dr will be able to help you know what you're looking at in the pic xx
I disagree, @jenjackson14 . Respectfully, being blunt & factual about the purpose of the anatomy scan is necessary. Too often, as illustrated by the word choice in the title, the anatomy scan is confused with an elective sex scan.
The purpose of the A/S is to evaluate the growth & proper placement of important anatomy. It is not solely about telling you how your child will urinate or what color to paint the nursery.
There are scans for that. Boutique places are an excellent way for excited mamas to get a second opinion & "double check" the tech's guess. It's a lot easier & more cost effective (and resource effective) to simply obtain one of those for a small fee.
Asking the doctor if she could get another U/S simply to confirm the test could result in a very expensive out of pocket expense. Most likely insurance will not cover a second opinion. So that is not wise advice. It would be a shame to incur such an expense, when that money could go elsewhere. So I'm doing OP a solid.
I didn't read any shaming or belittling going on. Just factual explaining of the true function of an anatomy scan. Shoot, there was even positive expressions that OP's baby appears to be doing well & everything measures on track. I don't understand where you are getting any negativity in this post? :-??
Being real & to-the-point does not equal shame or talking down. It means someone is taking the time to educate others.
I guess we both read things in different way and will have different opinions on them. Agree to disagree, everyone is entitled to their opinion yes but I have read a lot of posts where women are quick to be blunt to other women just asking for advice. Each to their own though.
Thanks jenjackson14 and u are right. I asked dr to do scan and see baby gender if possible and if everything is ok and she said looks like your having a girl and after appointment reception hands me this particular u/s pic and i was thinking which body part is this. Is it the head or bottom shot of genital area.
Just thought someone here also had a similar pic given to them and could shed some light. Didn't know some women here would get cranky over other pregnant women posting u/s pics of their baby's genital nub and bring out political correctness. Thought people would be happy and excited to celebrate that.
Its not like i'm posting a full frontal naked pic of my baby like some people do..
I have my 1st appt with my obgyn next week so will be having another scan with him and monitoring etc till birth...
To the ladies here saying its an anatomy scan, i didn't go in for a routine schedule appt with my dr. I was sick with the flu and asked if she could also see if gender is visible which she was happy to do and confirmed baby is measuring good and looks healthy. Anatomy scan/gender scan is right either way as dr looked at all of them...
I thought the replies were not kind either. She states she doesn't know and as far as "posting genitalia," people post photos all over Instagram and Facebook and the web of their nude children. Which I think is inappropriate. An US photo being posted in a forum about babies is highly appropriate. I'm going to be a first time mom and know nothing about babies. People should feel comfortable coming to this community for advice given in a more nurturing and understanding way. In regards to the actual photo I cannot tell but best of luck on your next visit. Also they can do a blood test, which two of my friends had done on both their children, to check the chromosomes on the baby for a "gender," confirmation. Biologically speaking.
@Knottie75347854@jenjackson14 Would you walk up to a complete stranger, shove your U/S photo in their face and ask that they tell you what sex it is? Essentially that's what's happening here.
Further, the anatomy scan is usually conducted at this point in the pregnancy. It is not a "gender scan." It was simply explained to OP. Why does that need to be sugarcoated?
Most here are not trained to read ultrasounds. Why would you trust strangers on the internet over your doctor?
I thought it looked like the head personally..lol...but congratulations on ur baby girl!!! If I were a stranger on the street I would still love to see it, and make a guess..
Knottie and djdawn thanks for ur replies. I feel as this is a pregnancy blog/app (the bump) that people post things here relating to pregnancy.
I'm not asking people to read my u/s pics as there are no drs here. I was just wondering if another pregnant mummy here also received a us pic like this before and if they knew what area of the baby it was of. If you haven't don't bloody reply... That aint hard is it??
And to those asking would i shove my us pic in public to some random person, u can't even compare that to posting things on the bump which is for pregnant women and mums to exchange information, tips advice etc.
If you guys are not gonna be supportive and complain when someone is curious, either don't bother replying to their posts or get off the bump.....
Its not like i am posting a stupid comment like "ummmm i've missed my period for 3 months and i seem to be getting fat around my belly area, do u think i could be pregnant.... But i haven't done a pregnancy test".
That one i can understand people being sarcastic...

Except that is not how a community forum works, hun. If you are confused, then call your doctor and ask them to interpret the ultrasound for you. This is the tone of the community (in general). Generally, folks don't like to try to guess ultrasounds or interpret them. You can't MAKE people like your post or participate the way that you want. Basically, once you post then you just deal with the responses you get. That's how it works. You may not like all the responses, but that doesn't make them rude.
No one is rude or stupid because they don't tell you exactly what you want to hear.
I just can't. It's not even worth everyone's energy anymore. It's a PREGNANCY forum. Feel free to post what u like. Yes people don't always respond the way you would like but seriously grow up stop being so pessimistic and let people ask the questions they are looking for support for. Takes more energy to be nasty than to smile and show support. I'd rather be kind to people and support ANYONE asking pregnancy related questions in a pregnancy forum lol. @EvaD84 good luck girl! Sometimes it's just easier to put things to bed than to argue with people who can only see their own POVs. Not naming any names but one user in particular has been having the same issue with other users in multiple discussions/posts so it's not even worth it and honestly they always defend that bc they are blunt they aren't trying to be rude but if everyone is calling the kettle black than its probably black.

I don't blame ya... They don't seem all too friendly. If they were a part of some pregnancy support group i were in, i'd be running back home...
