Babylist vs baby registry

hi all I recently started a baby list wondering if anyone else is doing this vs the traditional baby registry? I found it extremely simple and almost better then doing a registry. I am a FTM so I'm making sure I can convince everyone as far as store locations. What was your experience with either?

I don't know enough about it so I'm going to stick with store registries just because I know that people will know how to use those.

I will be doing a registers even though this is number 2 because I want the free crap and the coupons. I don't know if a list would do that for you.

@DrillSergeantCat I found it really simple to do its set up like a traditional registry but offers different stores/prices. @CuriousKiddosMama you do still get the different discounts associated with the stores. I know babies r us does like 20% for items purchased.

I did babylist for stuff around the web and then linked my store registries to it. I know not all stores are available everywhere and a handful of not so computer savvy relatives combined with etsy/amazon crazy friends; I am hoping I have something convenient for everyone. FTM so I am just guessing here, but no complaints from anyone yet.

BabiesRUs does a percent back for items purchased on your registry and I couldn't miss an opportunity for a little help picking up the extras I know I will need after baby arrives.

I'd still do a traditional registry. A LOT of people don't know how to use stuff like BabyList. Plus completion codes are awesome, like PPs have mentioned.

I have to say, there's also just something exciting and fun about going to a store and physically picking stuff out. You get to touch stuff and try things out and whatnot. It's awesome!

I made my initial registry at BBB, but everything else I'm going to put through Babylist! I like it because I can obscure websites like the ones I want to buy my cloth diapers from rather than having to make a separate registry just for that specific website. Especially because I will probably be getting my stash from several different websites.

I'm a FTM, but I've been reading a lot about this and am leaning towards Amazon because we live so far away from most of our friends and family. They have a 10% completion discount or 15% if you have Amazon prime (which we can't use in AK - grumble grumble), but only on Amazon.com items. BRU also seemed like a good deal with their completion coupons and % back deal. They also have a great return policy for anything on your registry. Is it common to have two registries?

The downside I read about Target was that the limited in-store stock could be frustrating. BabyList offered some coupons, but not a nice completion coupon like the in-store registries.

@cbou Every baby shower I've been invited to has at least 3 registries -typically Target, BRU, and BBB. I'm probably going to have 4 total (+Amazon) but I primarily want to register at Target for the completion codes as most of what we want is from the other stores

This. I'm a big fan of online shopping. I have Amazon Prime, etc. but for baby gifts, I always shop brick and mortar stores. I like to see what I'm getting in person. Even if it's something I've purchased before. I just prefer to do it that way. And you never know what cute little things you might see to add to a gift.

We are using Babylist. We went to the big box stores (Buy Buy Baby, Target, etc) and created registries for a few reasons. 1) you still get the free crap. 2) you still get the completion codes/coupons everyone is talking about. But then I went home and synced those registries to my Babylist one. 3) Easy returns/exchanges on any items we get since it's on our "registry."

I'm only telling people we are registered on Babylists, not in the store. Because the one bad thing about doing it this way…is that if someone goes off our Buy Buy Baby registry, it doesn't automatically take it off our Babylist registry. So we could potentially end up with duplicate gifts - but since we have official "secret" registries in the stores, returns/exchanges should be easy.
