Is it possible that the u/s technician got the sex of my baby wrong?

So at my private ultrasound, at first the baby had her legs crossed, and then the umbilical cord Was between her legs, and after I turned on my side she had her ankles crossed. so the technician couldn't get a clear shot of the her parts and after of what seemed like forever of getting her to move so she can show us her parts she finally said that she was defiantly a girl because of the "3 lines" in the pictures that were given to me I see the tree lines but they are very blurry and I don't see the legs in the picture. I had a gut feeling I was having a boy, and not that I'm not happy but I'm in denial that my baby is a girl. Could the technician be wrong?

  • My tech looked a few times throught my A/S and said girl everytime. At the last look she saw the three white lines and said girl. Now she also said its harder to be accurate when saying its a girl because boy parts can hide. I know a few people who were told girl and it came out a boy. We are doing a 3D ultrasound next week to confirm the gender. Of course its not 100% either but its more likely if you see some lady parts. Somehow people seem to know its a girl. I was out for dinner last night and the waitress was like "oh youre totally having a girl". I get it a lot. So I wasnt surprised when they said girl but I need confirmation before going all out!
  • It has been known to happen but is not extremely common. If you don't want to book a private scan to get a clearer picture then I would treat your pregnancy as team green and not go crazy buying all pink or purple. My friend was told they were having a girl and a boy came out. The nursey was decorated and painted very girly and she got rid of ALL her boy stuff (this was baby 2 and last for her and previously had a boy). Her hubby had to hurry and reprint and decorate the room. She had a sale to sell all the girl stuff and go out and re buy all the boy things.

  • The 3 lines in the printed picture may be blurry to you but were probably clear when the tech finally found them live. We knew we were having a girl from our Progenity test but the tech still looked to confirm, took a long time due to legs crossed, etc. When she finally showed us on the screen we saw it but looking at the picture she printed for us to take home it's tough to see. Just because the take home pic is blurry doesn't mean the tech saw it like that
  • My friend was told it was a girl and she had a boy but that was about 12 years ago? So I assume technology is better. The tech told us girl too and we were shocked because we both thought boy so I had the same worry as you - what If the tech was wrong. But I am assuming the tech is right over what my intuition told me because I know lots of people who thought they were having one gender and had the other but I only know of one time when the tech was wrong.
  • If the tech told you that you're having a girl, you're having a girl... If they aren't sure they'll say they aren't sure.
My dd was giving us a show at her ultrasound and it was apparently very obvious that she was a girl, but looking at the picture I couldn't have told you she's a girl. This time we are having a boy and he was super shy, but once we got a peek it was super obvious.
  • For what it's worth, I had a similar experience last week. The tech said definitely a girl because of the three lines. A few minutes later the baby moved and she said nevermind it's a boy. By the end of the scan they admitted they didn't know and I have to go back next week.
  • I had a Facebook friend last week that had a boy when they were told it would be a girl. So I don't think it's that rare.

I'm also not sure if it's true that the ultrasound tech can't say anything if they don't know for 100% sure. May vary from hospital to hospital.
  • With my first pregnancy I was told at almost 16 weeks I was having a boy. I even saw what looked to me like a penis. 6 weeks later I had another scan and lo and behold it was really a girl. At least I found out before she was born! This was 2 years ago.
  • Of course it's possible. But the technician is trained and most likely correct. I'm sorry you didn't get a boy, but I hope everything else looked healthy as that is what's important.
  • It's possible. I'm still not convinced mine is a girl. We'll see in two weeks at my next ultrasound :) I know people who were told the whole time they were having one gender and it was born the opposite. My first child was a girl until I peed, came back and he was a boy.
  • I'm booking in a 3D scan cause I'm unsure. She had her legs closed for an hour and a half and opened them for about two seconds haha, they got a photo and she said she's not positive but pretty sure it's a girl? Anyway fingers crossed she is because we've been given tonnes of girly stuff...

    Oh well,at least she's modest! :'D
  • Definitely possible try a boutique gender reveal. By me it's around 75.00 and if they can't get clear look the usually will allow u to come back at another date. My friend said orange juice can get them moving about maybe that's something to try?
  • Let me save you some time.... It's a girl. My sister is a US technician which makes me an expert. #thankmelater =D>
  • They can def be wrong! I was with my friend yesterday when she delivered and she has 2 ultrasounds confirming she was having a boy. The first time the dr said boy and the second time the tech told her at the anatomy scan. She def delivered a healthy baby girl.they have a lot of shopping to do.
