Team Green Moms--Going Home Outfit for Baby

Hi Ladies--this is a question for fellow team green Moms. Sorry if this topic has been posted before but I did not see anything when I searched specific to team green.

Are you going to buy a boy and a girl outfit for going home or are you sticking with a gender neutral outfit? I am thinking of buying 1 girl/1 boy outfit, but just wanted to see what you other ladies plan on doing. I know the baby won't care, but I thought it would be nice to have a gender specific outfit for pictures.

So far being team green has been great, but when it comes to buying clothes the selections have been limited!

Re: Team Green Moms--Going Home Outfit for Baby

  • I was team green for my first two. For my first I went to the hospital with one gender neutral outfit. For my second I went with a boy outfit and a girl outfit. I had to go to the store anyways when the baby was a week old so I didn't mind going out and returning the clothes the baby didn't wear.

  • We bought a going home outfit before we knew what we were having, so it was a gender neutral green frog jumper thing. It was painfully cute and I don't think I would have preferred to have a boy's outfit. It is my DH's job to pick a going home outfit, so it is out of my hands, but I rather think he will choose another neutral outfit.

  • I'm going to have my MIL help pick out a boy's outfit and a girl's outfit. It lets her get her overly gendered needs out :) I may limit her to a sleeper for each since it will be really cold where we are in January.
  • My DD was very little, so despite her grandmothers bringing about 15,000 newborn girl outfits once she came out (and we saw she was a girl) she still went home in the only thing tiny enough to fit her- a plain, off-white knitted onesie- which had the added benefit of being toasty warm. :) She had a yellow bow, if I recall correctly, but honestly we were just so excited to get her home and so worried about keeping her warm since it was negative degrees outside that we didn't care what she was wearing, only that she was comfortable and safe in her car seat. I'm sure it's fun to have baby leave the hospital in a gender-specific outfit, but I felt the more fun part was dressing her up all girly when people first came to meet her.
  • Team green here! I'm going to stick to a gender neutral outfit and then have a "boy" and a "girl" beanie. I found some cute little outfits at the Gap so I'm excited about those. All white/cream/ gray... Thinking about this cute navy jumper. Also was at Target and found some cute neutral stuff, cream and mint. I'm just going to buy all neutral NB stuff then go shopping for bigger clothes once baby is here.

I'm so excited... Im already acting like its a boy, so it will be a shock if it's a girl. I'll be thrilled either way!
  • Thanks ladies for your advice! I love the idea of the girl/boy beanie, I will have to see if I can find anything cute like that, especially because it will be super cold here in January.
  • Look on etsy, lots of cute baby stuff like that. Also baby boutiques. Yay! Baby stuff! Happy hunting!
  • I love Etsy I will definitely check there, thanks so much again!!
  • I actually just got a kimono from Gap in light gray that says Welcome Home on it. So we're going to use that. Harder than I thought today going to the anatomy scan and saying we don't want to know!
  • While I am not team green, if I were....I would do something cream or gray...they would look so sweet in it! :) if you wanted to could even take a matching bow for if it ended up being a girl.

I'm not a big fan of green stuff, but yellow is so sweet, and so is cream!
  • I think that in the states a going home outfit must definately be a "thing", but its not here in Australia (or at least not that I know of!). I'll just get a very cute outfit, a cream, white or grey as other have suggested above. Where I live it will be stinking hot here at that time of year, and most likely very humid too, so baby may well go home in not too much at all yet!
  • I got a white newborn onesie that says NEW on it from shower with DD she went home in it. LO will probably be wearing that outfit plus whatever winter gear we have in storage I'm not sure what in there so LO could very well be a boy and going home in pink and purple winter gear.
  • Love the idea of a boy/girl beanie! We will do that - it's super cold here in January!
  • These are all great ideas--I do like the idea of something cream/gray and then I'll do the blue or pink beanie--it sounds like I should go check out Gap this weekend, too!

  • We had a boy and girl outfit when we' were team green with DS. We will do the same this time as well.
  • I'm going with a gender neutral outfit and then finding an accessory for a boy and a girl to add to it - either a beanie or leg warmers, bows, etc. I love the beanie idea
  • I know the gender of my baby. However, a friend of mine bought both. This way you can have a cute outfit ready :)
  • I hadn't even thought of this yet! The idea of having one of each sounds nice, but I could see me leaving it to the last min and just getting someone neutral to only have to pick one. Lol!
  • I've gone for neutral, a little cream giraff baby grow, and my mam has knit a little cream cardi with little giraff buttons and a little beany hat. She has also knit a little flower rosett and if it's a girl she's going to sow this on ready for going home from the hospital. It's super cute I look at it all the time :-)
  • My MIL gave us the going home outfit that my DH wore and it's still in good condition. We won't know the sex until birth (is that what team green means?). It's blue, but I think we'll use it regardless. I think I care more about the sentiment than the "gender specific" colors. Plus, the look on my MIL's face when her little granddaughter goes home in a blue outfit will be priceless.
  • I love to hear from the Team Green moms!!! Sometimes I wonder if there's any of us left. 22 weeks and still haven't found out nor am I wanting to! I think I will bring a boy outfit and a girl outfit. The one I don't use, maybe I'll just donate to the hospital for a mom who could use a nice outfit or something.
  • DH and I made our own :D We're comic nerds so we bought a onesie and we've decorated it with the Deadpool symbol. For those of you who know Deadpool you know he's a little wonky and has an "interesting" so if it's a girl we're just going to add a BIG pink bow :D

Yes Team Green are those of us that don't know the sex of the baby. Since we can't say team pink or blue it's team green! I wouldn't have known until getting on here. Love your idea by the way!
  • I am team green as well! 22 weeks. I think I will see what outfits I get at my shower then decide if I want to buy something. My husband and I are huge sports fans, so it will likely be an Eagles or Flyers outfit depending on whether the Eagles are still playing when the Baby Is born :)
