March 2016 Moms

I'm a balloon!!!

This pregnancy is definitely taking its toll on me to say the least. I'm 12 weeks 4 days and I'm just constantly swollen. My next appt is not until next week.

I just want to know if anyone else is having swelling issues? I feel like it's early and this didn't happen until my third trimester with my others.
Is it normal? What can I do?

Thanks!

  • I am too! I'm only 14 weeks but have alot of swelling in my legs. I didnt have this during my previous pregnancy until the last few weeks. Sorry, I don't have any tips but had to comment as I can really relate to this issue, I will be watching for any tips :)
  • I hear compression stocking are a lifesaver for swelling.

  • I find I get more swollen when it's hot and humid out. This is why I am counting down the days until Fall. Until then I drink a lot of water and eat a lot of watermelon. Also, I avoid any salty foods.
  • I have to wait till fall?! I live in AZ and it's always hot. We've had a lot of rain lately too. Guess I'll keep drinking the water and elevating my legs.
Hopefully the whole pregnancy isn't like this!! :/
    Thank you!
  • Pineapple helps with swelling too.  Pregnancy during the summer sucks.

  • Fist Oil is a life saver! I have arthritis and I swell quickly in my feet :( But I take Fish Oil and Glucosomine every day twice a day and I haven't had any problems.

  • Do a google search on the myth about salt during pregnancy. Also, be sure to get plenty of protein and calories in general. Salt, protein and calories are what keep the fluid in your blood and out of your tissue, preventing swelling.

  • I ballooned too and now coming into 15 weeks the swelling seems to have gone away, I was so bloated that I could have told anyone that I was 5 or 6 months pregnant and they'd probably have believed me. I've cut out carbonation, no soda, started eating more pineapple, lemon water and nectarines, snack fruits etc, I've also cut out the bread that I was eating ( my go to food as I was so nauseous) and it really has helped - my stomach isn't so tender now as before thankfully.
