36 weeks and dilated...labor soon?

I had my prenatal appointment yesterday and had my first pelvic exam since early on (which hurt by the way). At 36 weeks, 1 day, I am 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced. Then this morning after going to the bathroom, I think a part of the mucus plug made its way out (it was a big chunk, but no blood, which I have heard that it should have). I went into pre-term labor very early in my other pregnancies, so all of this is new to me. For those who have had babies, does this all mean that I could go into labor soon, or is this typical a few weeks ahead of due date? I am scheduled to be induced at 39 weeks (3 weeks away). I wonder if I will make it that far?

    With my first I was 4 cm and about 70% two weeks before labor started. Dr always told me all the other things don't mean much... The only thing that says you are going into labor is consistent, time able contractions that increase in intensity. It certainly means your body is preparing itself but no one knows when the real deal will begin! :)

    This is my second baby and I'm approximately 1-2 cms dialted at 34 weeks 6 days. My dr said its normal with second, third, forth pregnancies to be slightly dilated... My sister walked around 4 cms with bulging waters for 3 weeks and still needed to be induced ! I wouldn't count on it !

    Thanks, ladies! I did ask my doctor and she was breezy about it. She mentioned..."You could go into labor anytime or not. If so, we wouldn't try and stop it at this point." Thank you for sharing your experiences! I feel better now :).
