April 2016 Moms

My 5 year old is going to out me...

My 5 year old told me last night it looked like I had a tummy.  He asked if there was a baby in there yet and how big it was.  I was shocked that he was asking so many questions, but I answered them and told him there was a baby but that it was very, very tiny.  It was pretty cute, but he kept talking about it.  And this morning, on the way to school, my husband said he was still asking about it.  He's going to tell everyone.  Thankfully we don't live near my parents, but are going to visit and tell them this weekend.

We've been talking about having another baby, and I've asked both kids (5 and 3) in the past if they wanted a baby at home.  Both seem excited about the idea of having a baby.  We haven't actually come out and told them I was pregnant yet, but they're pretty observant and clearly have heard us talking about it.

My first appointment is today, and although I doubt I'll get an u/s I'm still going to ask if I can get one. I just want to know that everything is ok and that I won't have to have conversation with him later.  Plus, I'd love to have an u/s to show my parents this weekend.

I think a lot of us have appointments today, so good luck everyone!

Re: My 5 year old is going to out me...

  • We have a 2 year old and he's very jumpy. So trying to explain to him he can't jump on mommy without telling him why is really hard. I know for sure when I let him in on our secret he's going to tell everyone. And my mom watches him a lot. So I know how you feel. My first appointment is today also but I'm just meeting with the nurse. Good luck at your appointment!

  • Hope you both get u/s today! My ob does them on your first visit. I've had 2 already due to a mc but today is my first official prenatal visit. So we get to see baby again!
  • no u/s for me today :( i have to wait till next Wednesday. I'm an impatient person and i really just wanna see it lol
  • My first appointment isn't until the end of the month and I'll be close to 10 weeks by then. Good luck to all the ladies that have appointments today!!
  • I asked my 4.5 y/o DD yesterday if she thought we should have another baby (we've asked her this periodically since our last was born). She told me that there was a baby in my belly and it was getting bigger. She also said we were going to have 2 more babies, a boy and a girl. I'm hoping she meant one at a time and not twins. She's always been more in touch with the "other side" than most people.

  • We were sure our almost 4 year old would out us. She hasn't somehow. We went for a bike ride and she was singing a song about it. But later that night nothing said to our friends.
  • DD is 21 months and has known since the second I took a test (before DH actually because she was with me when I tested). No concerns over her outing us though...kiddo doesn't do a whole lot of comprehensible talking yet :-P Though when I say the word "baby", if she overhears me, she points to and kisses my belly...so we avoid the word.

  • My son is the same way! He's convinced I'm pregnant (and is, of course, right) and tells me at least three times a day. I keep saying "well, Mommy has to go to the doctor to check..." in the hopes of holding him off until week 12, but he keeps saying "I already know, Mommy." LOL.

  • My oldest guys have already figured me out. They were eating dinner the other night and my 3.5 year old stopped, looked at me funny, and said, "mama, are we getting a new baby?" I just said, uh, what and then my almost 5 year old says, "mama, you have a baby in your belly." DH and I both said, well we don't know if there is a baby and both of them said, we do, we are having a new baby. Truthfully since I'm feeling all large and bloated, it hurt my feelings for a second because I thought I must look pregnant. Insane I know lol. DS1 did say though that the baby is still super little cause my belly isn't big like with DS3 and I still have a belly button. Funny the things they notice and remember! We finally told them because it felt weird not to after all that and explained it was a super top secret. Yeah DS2 has already told his teacher. I hear she didn't believe him and just kept saying "no, your mommy doesn't have a baby in her belly, you better stop saying that" I can tell though that she's been looking at my belly each morning this week so I think she wonders. You should see me trying to suck it all in lol.

  • If you ask my 4 yr old daughter... Mommy has a back ache and she's sick all the time!! I'm waiting as long as possible to tell her. So far she's buying it... I think ;)
  • Oh 5 year olds. So verbal, expressive, communicative, and yet so unaware of social conventions and appropriate conversation. I used to teach the kindergarten class at church, and I heard about more private family issues than I ever expected. Kids pick up on all kinds of things.

  • My 6 year old told me I was pregnant before I knew! and she named the baby - and told my parents her baby names (rocky and Anna) which led to a lot of questions!
  • I was asked today when I was going to tell DS (age 4.5) and my response.. whenever I'm ready for everyone we know (and everyone we don't) to know as well! He's just a jabberbox, I can't imagine what he might tell people!
