January 2016 Moms

So it begins....

Hello, my name is carly... And I have leaky boobs.
Today I have entered my 23rd week of my pregnancy.
I took me a nice long warm shower and started getting ready for the day.
Went to put on my bra- and I looked down as lo and behold!! Two nice wet looking spots.

Time to go to the store for leaky booby pads...

Welcome to mommy hood. It begins.

Re: So it begins....

  • Bummer! It was bound to happen sooner or later I guess. Not looking forward to when it begins for me!

  • Oh no! Mine have leaked after showers since- gosh I dunno, early on- I have crazy milk makers! But it's only with the warm water. Yours are leaking that much already, hopefully that means great supply later!

Two years, two losses and three IUIs...

    We are having TRIPLETS!

    EDD 1/26/16

     GGB born November 2015!

  • Oh wow, had no idea it could happen that early!  (FTM here.)  May go to the store this evening for some pads just in case.  (This happening at work is my worst nightmare, haha.)
  • Happened to me this weekend out of the blue. I'm 23 weeks also. Luckily I was with my sister and she noticed and i was somewhere I was able to put a jacket on and not look crazy!!
  • It started happening to me at 16 weeks! And it wasn't even the water. It was when I put pressure on my boobs, it started coming out. Thankfully it's not enough to go through my bra or anything.

I'm not getting full on liquid coming out, but I have noticed almost scab looking patches, but white, every couple of days, I swear I'm making powdered milk :). FTM and also surprised its started so early, at about 20 weeks I first noticed it.

This exactly! I've experienced the exact same thing. As a FTM I was pretty unprepared for that, and now I get some liquid after a shower as well.

Can't recommend the bamboobies enough! All those disposable pads are either itchy or don't stick well and get all crumpled in your bra. The bamboobies are super soft, washable, and they make different levels of absorbency.

    ETA -- I apparently can't spell.
  • Ug, me too. Are you worried about losing colostrum? My SIL has me freaked about that now.

  • I haven't had anything yet at all, not even the slightest bit...I've even squeezed to see if anything comes out, lol. But now I'm thinking maybe I should hop on Amazon and have some pads sent to the house so that when it happens I have them ready!

  • Alright, I guess it's time to order some of those boob pads. I work in a school and don't want to be unprepared.
  • Haven't had any issues, yet! But like a PP mentioned, some white "powdered milk" spots have begun! If you don't have any pads with you, always carry a scarf! I wore a scarf 9 months straight when I pumped for DD in case something happened with a breast pad.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing.  I am a teacher and I can only imagine what my students would say to me, if they saw wet round circles on my chest. 3rd graders, know a thing or two about anatomy at that age, so they would probably be able to figure out where it's coming from, lol.  :))
  • Mine started a few days ago, I was so surprised! But according to everything I've read, it's totally normal at 23 weeks.
  • Mine started early with DS and i started having to pump at around 35 weeks and had oversupply once he was born. I Stopped breastfeeding at six months and was still producing milk until i got pregnant this time(boy #2) dried up and started leaking again at around 16 weeks! It happens alot more at night time. I dont mind at all hopefully i have an oversupply again since i dont plan on stopping this time around;)
  • Mine just started tonight. 22w, 3d. Very weird!

Oh no! At least you know you will have milk! I had to go to the hospital yesterday because I had bleeding and contractions. They hooked me up to machines and did a sono and she was fine and everything came out fine in the end well after I was there for six whole long hours. But I was informed that When I take a shower not to let the hot water hit my breasts it causes them to leak and my cervix well start to cause contractions. I was also told that if you have bigger breasts to wear a sports bra to keep them confined because any bumping or jumping around with your breasts also cause that.
  • Glad to know I'm not the only one...
I went to target and bought some booby pads.
I had the white scabby powder for at least a month before I noticed the spots in the bra.
I didn't realize hot water would cause it.
Since I work at a restaurant with crying kids il definitely going to wear some kind of pad lol
  • I'm not leaking yet but I just ordered bamboobies from Amazon just to be prepared in case I do.
  • Haha mine have been leaking since probably 16 wks and now, at 23 weeks it has gotten to the point where randomly they will just start pouring and if I don't have a bra on all hell breaks loose.
  • So it sounds like no need to worry about lost colostrum...?

  • Your body will only make colostrum. The colostrum will change to milk a few days after baby is born :). My colostrum changed over(milk came in) about 4 days after my c-section. It would have come sooner if had not used a paci and nursed on demand. I was confused at first because fore milk looks like colostrum. But then I read about fore-milk and hind-milk. And figured it out. It's awesome your boobs are working. I was so worried since I never leaked that if I had baby early I wouldn't be able to feed her. It reassuring. I nursed for three years and never leaked once.
  • Thanks @Hipshaker!
