bugaboo stroller

In the doctors office this morning, this lady had a really cute stroller that I liked, I noticed the name so I googled it quickly just now. bugaboo brand. $1100 dollars

WHAT?! Why? Why would a stroller cost THAT much... And why would you PAY that much?!
Thoughts?

Re: bugaboo stroller

  • My friend got one and it was gorg but I just couldn't justify spending that much money on a buggy !!! My whole nursery, buggy and few bits diden even come close to that :/
  • Loading the player...
  • We are getting VERY few things for this baby, as it's our second and I'm somewhat of a minimalist, but we are getting a Bugaboo stroller
  • I have heard from many people that it's worth it (especially if you actually use your stroller a lot).
I personally got the BOB motion which is considerably cheaper.

  • I understand that a lot of people buy them.. But why? What makes it a better buy than say a $100 graco stroller from target?

    FTM and genuinely curious :)
  • Twin mom with bugaboo donkey here. My dh researched twin strollers and decided that was the best. We were able to afford it so we bought it. I have no idea how much better it is than any other stroller, or even if it is better, because it's all we have, but I know it works great for us and probably got us out more with the twins in the early days. Whether or not it's worth the price tag I also don't know.
  • Baby bargains book gives it high marks. It is a luxury stroller so the cheaper ones may have similar functionality just not as "nice". We were leaning uppababy vista but I don't think we are going to be big stroller people so now we are leaning britax b ready. It has a lot of similar functionality of the uppababy but about half the cost.

  • It's also a status thing. People *know* that Bugaboo is expensive...

I think it's overpriced, but I think it's also good quality.  It also has better tires and shock absorbers than a cheapie stroller from Target.  If you do a lot of city walking that is really important.

  • Also a target $100 stroller may not really last a very long time. They are not really well made. I would not spend over a grand on a stroller, but I will go mid-range.

  • I tested a Bugaboo Chameleon travel system (with NO intent to buy it,) but then ended up going with the Urbini Omni from--of all places--Walmart! It has a lot of the same features, with an aluminum frame. The only things I see that are glaringly different is the name on the label, the quality of the fabric, and the cover isn't removable, but I can deal with that for $900 less. Baby Bargains gave it a favorable rating (not the best, but the best rating within that price point.) I would say if you want, test it out, and then go find something comparable cheaper! The Omni really was gorgeous when we took it out of the box (I actually found it on clearance!) and drives like a dream.
(I also want to wear the baby a lot, so don't know how much we'll use the stroller. It's just going to be slick out when she's born, and would feel safer out and about if I don't have her strapped to my chest while trying to cross icy parking lots.)
  • I bought one on craigslist for $160 its like almost new.

    Wow.  That's one helluva find.

  • I will admit that it's probably a bit overpriced, but there aren't any really great strollers for a reasonable cost that I like. The bugaboo puts our Britax to shame, but that's just my experience.
