Exercise and Fitness plans

This morning DH and I went for our regular morning run/walk. Total we do between 2-3 miles and he does a lot more running than I do. I'm not in the best shape, but when we actively stated TTC I wanted to get healthier and started run/walking.
I was able to get through everything today but (possible TMI) I just knew I would be missing a nipple at the end. I've gotta get new and better bras if I'm gonna continue incorporating cardio.

So. Where do I buy these? Any suggestions on pregnancy sports bras? Any other cardio or workout suggestions? What are you ladies doing?

Re: Exercise and Fitness plans

  • I've always liked the Champion sports bras at Target.
I've always been into weight lifting but I get tired so easily nowadays. So I don't do supersets or HIIT or anything. One muscle group at a time with longer rests in between sets. I still hike and walk, do core work also.

  • I love jogging and have been actively trying to lose weight prior to conceiving by jogging and doing beachbody workouts. I buy new balance sports bras from marshalls. They work great for me (I'm in between a C and D cup)

Actually, I was just about to start a thread asking about minimizing weight gain. I'd been drinking ideal shakes for breakfast and am wondering what yall think about continuing that? Obviously I'll ask my OB at first appointment but just curious until then. I am obviously not still trying to lose, but want to minimize gain.
  • I like the Old Navy sports bras. Victoria Secret of course has great ones as well.

I've intended to keep up with my jogging routine, but I haven't done so great. I've hurt my neck, so I'm waiting for that to heal. I really want to jog a few miles at least twice a week. May start doing some Wii Fit stuff, too, since I'm not going to be training for races.

  • I was in the process of losing weight (need to lose ~40lbs). Had lost 8 lbs since early August then I got my BFP. I'm following Knock-Up Fitness on FB for ideas on safe things to not lose the momentum so losing after baby will be easier.

I tend to lose 10 lbs. first trimester due to morning sickness, food aversions, etc. Totally normal for many women. Actually kinda, almost, maybe hoping it happens this time around as I have a wedding to attend week 15 that my DH is a groomsmen for and I am doing some videoing for, tend to start showing early, and have already purchased a dress for said wedding. Not that I'm looking forward to the throwing up, but I'd really like the new dress to still fit as I love it. lol

As far as sports bras go, I actually just go with ones from WM. I think they are Danskin. Considering I'm not exactly small chested, I'm surprised how well they work for me.

  • I usually wear target champion bras but those were pretty inadequate before I was pregnant. I'm a D cup normally. I'll have to check out Old Navy and VS.
Glad to see others jogging. I'm a little afraid of overheating so I'm ready for the cool fall weather to show up.

I was able to get a treadmill for cheap from a friend, and I sure am glad I did! Saves me concern of overheating, and I can stop whenever I need to and get more water or turn on another fan, go to the bathroom. I may still run some outside, but I feel a lot more comfortable this way.

I'm a D cup too so am very surprised the Danskin ones work as well as they do for me. Just keep the water to you and rest/slow down when you need it. I use my elliptical to walk/run and am just making sure I walk more than I run now. So for 30 minutes of cardio, I'm now doing 5 min of walking, 3 of running, 5 of walking, etc. Still getting a decent work out but not overheating that way. Since I'm inside, I also have a fan pointed at me. But, I did that pre-BFP too. I'm a wimp who hates being hot. lol

  • I've been pretty lax about it since I've found out but I usually go to the Y every other day or so and run a few miles... I use the Target bras, but I've also found them pretty lacking. I actually wore one just around the house since I found out and it wasn't fun. Under Armour is ok but kinda pricy if you go for the good ones. I've heard good things about Moving Comfort. I've always meant to try them, but they're kinda expensive... Might be worth it though. I know a few people who swear by them.
  • I was doing pretty hard HIIT beforeI had my knee scoped in January and it still isn't right. So now I just am basically walking and still doing Jillian Michael's videos with half squats and lunges. I gained 25 with my knee issue, and I'm still trying to lose weight, it's just not working. Ha
  • Sorry I wish I had ya'lls problem with the bras. Unfortunately I'm pretty small on top so I haven't had that issue. I do remember after DS my boobs were bigger than they ever had been and I would run with a not very supportive bras and I would say how can these girls stand these things! They are bouncing up to my eyeballs. Lol anyway my Champion bra is super tight and supportive but I got mine from TJ Max. They have good workout clothes for a reasonable price!

I have kept up my regular routine of lifting 5 x a week and running 1-3 miles a day. I am extremely out of breathe more than normal but I'll keep going till I'm uncomfortable. I run early in the morning try before 10 am that way the heat isn't an issue.I am a PT so it's so refreshing to hear other ladies workout and are not letting pregnancy be an excuse! I was training for a race this month but I'm still not sure I want to do it. I'm super competitive so to know I could of done better might bother me haha. Good luck everyone! Eat healthy workout often and the weight shouldn't be too much of an issue!
  • I love my VS sports bras. They're super supportive for D+ cups without feeling like my chest is squished.
  • I'm really curious how much I'll be able to work out. I do a (ridiculously overpriced) hard-core spinning class once a week that I simultaneously loathe and love. I went on a different day last week and lo and behold--the instructor was pregnant. I was hoping to continue doing those classes, so that is a good sign!

I also lift heavy weights and do other things at the gym--elliptical, treadmill, etc.

I also walk my dog for a good 45-50 minutes in the morning and another 15-25 in the evening, and I try to keep up a good pace. I have been active my whole life and I have read that it can be hard to do once one is pregnant. We shall see.

I use Champion SBs, by the way.

  • Another vote for VS sports bra. Love that thing. And lasts for forever.

Do we have an ongoing/weekly wellness check-in thread somewhere? Because I'd be all for that. Excessive weight gain is one of my biggest fears being pregnant... I'm extremely prone to over eating and under-moving.

I suggested such a thing on a thread asking for suggestions for the board. I hope it is something we do as I would also like to put myself in the best position to succeed in terms of gaining the appropriate amount of weight. In that suggestion post, I noted that over at MyFitnessPal (ap/community for health and weight loss/gain/maintenance) I posted a thread asking what women did (or wish they did) while they were pregnant. No other prompts other than that (i.e. I didn't ask about weight). And the OVERWHELMING response was that they wished they had tracked what they ate. (The app allows you to track eating/calories/macros, etc.). Anyhow, it's easier said than done, but support on that front is probably one of the biggest keys to successfully staying mindful of health and fitness.

    :)) Lol!
  • I normally have double up my sports bras. DDD+, I'd love to get a reduction after this baby. I'm currently doing a motified version of the 21 Day Fix.

  • Last pregnancy I stayed pretty active, ran until 27 weeks, bike commuted til 38 weeks, and lots of prenatal yoga thanks to participating in a study on yoga and stress reduction in pregnant women. This time around I will have a toddler to chase after, way less time, and no free yoga :( So we'll see. I'll do my best to maintain running and biking for as long as I can, then most likely switch to walks/ hikes.

As for sports bras, it depends on what activity you're doing- if you are a serious runner, it might be worth it to drop the cash on a Nike or Lululemon one. When I was training for a half marathon this summer I just kept rotating between my Nike bra and my Lululemon bra because the cheap ones I have from Target or Gap Body all chafed or didn't support me on the 10+ mile runs. It'll be a long time before I'm running that far again tho, so I'll probably buy cheap ones for my giant pregnancy boobs that are sure to arrive any day now ;)
  • Ha! gotta change my ticker. Definitely not 143 weeks pregnant. Sorry guys.
