I can't sleep :(

Normally I can sleep straight thru the night, so much so that DH and I always joke I will sleep through a baby screaming. For the last two weeks or so I can't sleep! I'm up multiple times a night (it's almost 4:30 now, I've been up for an hour). Anyone else not sleeping ? How are you dealing? Obviously I'll take never sleeping again if it means I'll have a healthy baby.

Re: I can't sleep :(

  • Bad, restless nights here as well even though I feel dead tired. I get an hour or so here and there but I feel like hell in the morning. I cope by taking naps throughout the day as needed.

  • I've been waking up around 3 or 4 am and not being able to fall asleep since my BFP. I'm pretty used to waking up multiple times a night and tossing and turning, but usually I'm able to drift back to sleep pretty quickly. Not lately!
  • I've had a really hard time getting comfortable to sleep the last few nights. I really didn't expect that this early....

  • I don't know if I am restless, or if it's anxiety. Probably a bit or both. As the day goes on, my back gets worse, so by bedtime it's on fire and I can't get comfortable. When I wake up, I'm wide awake then. Last night woke twice. My job is pretty demanding with long hours, so worried about how I am going to make it through the day. Guess it's a rehearsal for when we are parents!

  • Yeah I was exhausted last night but couldn't get to sleep. Then I woke up a couple of times in the night and struggled to get back to sleep. I am so tired today *yawn* I am going to be drinking my 200mg of caffeine today I think!

  • Last night was really bad for me sleep-wise. I probably got 2 or 3 hours. You can take Benadryl or Unisom to help sleep if needed. I'm taking it, though, and it's not fixing it really. But that's because I'm used to taking really strong drugs to make me sleep.

  • This has been me too. So tired all day then can't fall asleep and stay asleep at night. It's rather miserable. I don't remember this with my DD but maybe I just blocked it from my memory. ;)

  • I am having trouble sleeping, too, but I don't think it's because I'm pg. Well, kind of. I'm waking up thinking about the things I have to do at work. But I always have things to do at work. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed, I think.

I hope everyone here can get the rest they need...and we definitely need it!

Is the back pain a new thing? I just started getting a pretty noticeable aching/throbbing feeling in my lower back (right side). But I'm not sure what it means; I've had back issues before to the point where I was in physical therapy two years ago. To this day I still do strengthening exercises at the gym for it. So I'm not sure what's going on, but it was like a switch; I woke up yesterday and the back pain switch just turned to "on" and has been "on" ever since. I even brought my heat pack to work!

I have some back problems from my pregnancy and labor with DD. I have a bulging disc in my lumbar and half of my pelvis is kind of "twisted" I guess. The two halves of my pelvis aren't evenly angled, if that makes sense? But the day before I got my BFP my back was hurting so bad! And since then I have gotten no relief. I'm assuming it's because of the relaxin and everything is moving, but I have been absolutely miserable!!

Its horrible!! For me its on my left side, about mid-back. I am ok now, but sitting all day aggravates it. The I cant find a good sleeping position. I might be getting one of those pregnancy pillows soon if it will help.

  • I slept horribly as well. I feel kinda bad bc DH commented this morning that it's kinda hard to fall asleep when I'm rolling around all night. :(

I perhaps have a similar issue. For me, it all started about 3 years ago. I went on a run (on vacation, no less!) and it was warm out. I felt incredibly loose and warm and was just stretching when I heard an audible "POP" and then waves of pain. I've never felt right since. My physical therapist told me that he thinks I experienced a pelvic "up-slip" in which the right side of my pelvis did just that--slipped up. So I'm not twisted, but more uneven. But this pain feels different, although located in the same general area.

I am actually worried about what the pg will mean for my back. Just another question I have to ask the dr. during my appt., which can't get here soon enough!

  • I have my good and bad nights. I take Benadryl almost every night to help me fall asleep. Last night was a bad night. I kept waking up every hour.

  • I usually fall asleep within seconds and sleep through the night, but for the past week or so, I keep waking up to pee and can't fall back asleep. I woke up twice times last night and couldn't fall back asleep for over an hour each time. @-)

  • @vinerie I feel your pain! I never understood how miserable it was to have back problems. The doctor and physical therapist think my pelvic crookedness happened during my awful labor. I was induced at stuck at 1cm for 19 hours and then progressed to 10 in 30 minutes. So they think my pelvis didn't have time to properly expand and as a result ended up expanding unevenly and never corrected itself.

I am really worried that this is going to affect my pregnancy and labor somehow. If your doctor has any helpful tips for pain let me know! I still have about a month before my appt.
