3D ultrasound and babys weird positioning

hello everyone

ive checked through the feeds to find an answer to my question but no luck.

im a FTM and 32 weeks pregnant with my baby girl. shes been head down for a couple of weeks now. today we went to get a 3d/4d ultrasound. she does move around often but today it seemed as if she was so sleepy. on the ultrasound she was using her foot as a pillow. she would move a lil, yawn, stick her tongue out but the foot stayed. we poked , massaged tried everything and nothing. its as if we were putting her to sleep more. we took a break and this time she turned her back towards us but that lil foot still by her face.

ok sorry  ... my question is ... is her positioning normal? will she put it down? will it cause harm to her during birth? has anyone experience tthis?

thank you

Re: 3D ultrasound and babys weird positioning

  • I also did an ultrasound at 32 weeks and my little boy had both his feet to his forehead the entire time. They had me drink cold stuff move around and he was not interested at all in moving those feet around. He's very active during the day though and the doctor told me that at 32 weeks he can move positions over and over before it is time for his arrival.

  • At our almost 32 week 3D ultrasound, his foot was touching his forehead. He put it up and down, but the tech said it was normal for them to do that. They're just flexible little things in there! It made more sense why I couldn't determine his position on my own because I was feeling strong kicks low and then high.

  • You still have around 7-8 weeks left. I'm sure your LO will shift positions many times before making her entrance. I wouldn't be worried at all. & baby's bones are pretty flexible in the womb. She's probably very comfy in there with that foot lol.
  • Thank you all for your responses. :)
  • My baby girl was hugging the back of her knees for my entire 3D ultrasound.  Feet over head!  They didn't seem concerned.  We had a good laugh about it.

I'm sure everything is okay. :)
  • I had to go back after my first attempt at a 3D ultrasound because my kiddo had a hand blocking the face and I think a foot up by the face as well. I tried cold water and walking around and the kid would not budge!

I went back a week later at a different time (luckily the place didn't charge if they couldn't get good shots) and baby was feeling photogenic that day. I got some really great pictures.

I would recommend going when you know baby is more active and maybe more willing to move and cooperate.
  • I have another appointment this week hopefully she cooperates. Lol
